Wow – I love this thread (except for the snoring one J )  It’s like meditation to imagine hearing some of these sounds as I read about them, like the waves lapping the shore or the beautiful description of sailing from Bob.  Lots of good ideas for soothing sounds to listen to while trying to block out triggers. I love the sound of my children laughing!

I also love the sound of the surf, the ocean waves. Actually most water sounds,

like rain or a waterfall... but not a leaky faucet or any dripping sounds!

And I love the sound of a harpsichord

The sound of electronic dance music. Trance melodies are just the best. Specially the electronic keyboards.V

Yes definetly water sounds. Waterfalls and streams for me. On a really bad day, waterfall sounds thru earbuds from ipod, under over the ear head phones plugged into running stream from sound machine gives me instant respite from intrusive sounds, and i only need to push a few buttons to get to my watery sound oasis. ahhhhh To: Soundsensitivity Sent:

A friend of mine works for a TV broadcaster and she brought me into her office building recently.  There's a soundproof room in the building - as soon as I entered the room it was amazing.  When the door closed, all of a sudden sound no longer travelled - and I couldn't hear anything.  Even the sound of speaking was quieter and dampened.  I had an immediate feeling of peacefulness.

 

So there are lots of pleasant sounds including music and soft sounds from nature, but my new favourite noise is the sound of that soundproof door closing with me in the room.   Wish I had the money and know-how to create such a room at home.

I LOVE Thunder, frogs singing, water running (like a small waterfall or stream),

rain, the hum of my furnace in winter, the sound of the wind through the pine

tree's, coyote's howling.

I, too, like the sound of rain, wind, thunder, waves -- anything nature-related (except barking dogs.) I travel with a white noise machine, especially for hotels, where any kind of nonsense from others can assault me! One of my favorite sources of white noise at home is a fountain my husband had installed at our pool. It helps to muffle the sound of neighbors across the canal who are simply talking (yes, even that can be a major distraction for me).
