Guest guest
Carolyn, I've only been using Estrace for 1-1/2 to 2 weeks, but it's made a difference. I'm 48 and for approx. 4 years have had chronic vaginal irritation, including burning, cutting, splinter-type pain, inflammation, splitting skin. It got gradually worse during that time and eventually led to inability to have intercourse or insert tampons and immediate POC. During flares, the skin is bright red. Other times it's either slightly red or sometimes pasty pink. To me, it doesn't look healthy, but I'm not sure what that would look like anyway. Sometimes the irritation/pain/inflammation is primarily on the vestibulum and other times it extends up through the pubic region and out as far as the crease where my thighs attach to my torso. Prior to 4 years ago, I had none of these problems. I always had a healthy sex life, used tampons, and the worst problem I had vaginally was a very rare yeast infection. Hope this information helps answer your questions. Good luck, Janis
Guest guest
Hi everyone, This is Kiernan and I have to make a very difficult decision. My doctor wants me to get a vestibulectomy where they take my vestibular glands out, and I'm only 19 years old. I don't really want to do this but what else can I do? I can't figure this thing out. For all of you who have had this procedure done, did it work? Did it take your pain away 100%? That's what I am hoping for. Also, when they removed your glands did they do further testing on them to see what the problem with them was? Before I even make the decision I want to know what doctors have found to be wrong with the glands after they have been removed. I want to know if the cause of the inflammation of the glands is caused by something either fungal, bacterial, or viral. Another symptom I have is that when I get aroused my glands hurt even more, alot more, they start to sting and hurt really bad!!! Why is this I wonder? I really need some help making this decision, if there is anyone who can shed some light on this procedure or has any further information on why this procedure is done, I would greatly appreciate it. Sincerely, Kiernan
Guest guest
Hi everyone, this is Kiernan again. I just wanted to ask is there anyone who notices that if they rub there vulvar skin like the labia minora, and labia majora that a whitish yellowish flaky stuff seems to be rubbing off with it? I noticed this for a while now and I'm wondering if it is yeast or something else? It's dry and flaky though as if it were skin but I know it not skin. There is kind of an odor to it too but it 's not really that bad. Could this be a unknown bacteria or fungus? I also notice that this is coming from inside the tissues of my skin, not from my vagina. Also there is this stuff coming out of my clitorus too it's also more sticky and there's more of it, not exactly on the clitorus but inside it near the gland of it. I'm not sure what this stuff is but I'm going to go to another doctor and have them culture it, and I'm going to have them to a colposcopy of my vulvar skin because it doesn't look right. Maybe whatever this stuff is it is causing my skin to look the way it does and maybe it is also what is in my vestibular glands making them very painful and inflammed. Maybe this could be the key to what is going on down there. Well my current doctor wants me to get a vestibulectomy because she thinks it's the only way to go but I don't!!!!! There is definitely something wrong with my glands and my skin but there has to be a cause to what is making it hurt and burn so much. My doctor also said that I have this dip in my tissues right near one of my vestibular glands and she said she doesn't know what it is or what causes it but that she has seen it in two other women who got this right after having a c-section. Well I never had a c-section or was ever pregnant so she doesn't know if that is linked to it. But she said the two women had there glands removed and now they are fine. I don't know but I'm going crazy over this!!!!!! should I get a vestibulectomy or not???? If all this is caused by some unknown bacteria or fungus then what is surgery gonna do???? My vestibular glands are a part of me that I cannot get back if they are removed, there has to be another way around this thing. Isn't there any other way that doctors can look at the glands without cutting women open, or just taking them out??? I know there is something wrong with my glands because when I get aroused they hurt and sting alot more, I can actually feel them burning and stinging way worse when they are supposed to be secreting or doing what they are supposed to do. I wonder what the reason for that is????? If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. All I want for Christmas is for this mystery to be solved so I can get my life back. I wish everyone luck. Sincerely, Kiernan
Guest guest
Kiernan, Has your Dr. checked out your Bartholin glands at all? Have you taken Accutane by any chance? Guest guest
Kiernan, I had a vestibulectomy two weeks ago. My doc says it will be a few months until we can tell if it worked or not, so sorry I can't give you more info that way. Like you, I had a VERY difficult time making the decision to have surgery. I was an emotional wreck, and was finally actually kind of relieved just to have it so I could deal with it instead of just worrying. One thing that helped me make the decision (besides a very supportive husband and a doctor I trust 100%) was the realization that I'd put a year into trying the treatments (creams, no soap, yeast meds, etc) that supposedly work for only about 10% of women, and the surgery is said to have a success rate of 80-90%. I know it's still super scary, and I'd never want to talk you into something that I felt was right for me personally, but I just wanted to let you know that I understand completely the frustration and scariness of what you're going through. Although I can't tell you the outcome yet, let me know if you want more info about the procedure itself or the initial recovery (I researched it extensively, and I have first hand experience now too!), or if you just need to talk about your situation. I know that the time where I was deciding was very emotionally draining (still is, waiting to know if I'm stuck with this forever), so if you need to talk, it might do us both good! Good luck; I'm thinking of you. At 11:57 AM 12/5/98 -0500, you wrote: > > >Hi everyone, > >This is Kiernan and I have to make a very difficult decision.
