Hi, All --

I may be way behind and therefore letting you all know about the

already known ... so that you all feel you've been there, done that!

But for me, this is new info and perhaps for some of you too.

Have you heard of ASEHA Qld -- Allergy, Sensitivity & Environmental

Health Association? Home page is http://www.asehaqld.org.au/ It's

in Queensland, Australia, but you may find some very interesting info

and ideas on their pages. For example, click out to ...

Chemical Sensitivity Page

http://www.asehaqld.org.au/chemical_sensitivity_page.htm

CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY LOBBYING

http://www.asehaqld.org.au/chemical_sensitivity_lobbying%20feedback%20form.htm

And then, I just received our Sierra Club Chapter's newsletter, " Yodeler. "

Daivid (IAQ) Kibbey has the lead article, " How green is your

mansion? " ( is our local guru -- two sites to visit are:

Architects/Designers/Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR)

http://www.adpsr-norcal.org

Green Resource Center

http://www.greenresourcecenter.org/

In How Green, recognizes the fact that our noses play a very

important role in keeping us safe as he suggests: " Follow your nose. "

He lists nine possible/probable causes of indoor air pollution and

then explains what the problem could be and goes on to suggest fixes

or means of prevention.

1. Mustiness?

2. Smoke?

3. Paint or new carpets?

4. Dirty-sock smell? (Could be caused by a slime inside your

air-ventilation system.)

5. Chlorine or ozone?

6. Pesticides?

7. Gasoline or oil?

8. Rubber?

9. Perfume or strong fragrances?

The Yodeler does not have this article up ... in fact, they seemingly

are not up-to-date with issues.

Many of you may remember that in December 1998, the San Francisco Bay

Chapter took a remarkable step in leadership on the subject of

fragrances in public venues with its --

" Excessive Use of Fragrance Products in Public Places, a

resolution passed 12/01/98 "

http://tamalpais.sierraclub.org/chapters/sanfranciscobay/policy/december1998.htm

Many wrote letters of support to the Sierra Club and contacted your

own chapters to bring forth similar resolutions. I have not learned

of any chapters, other than the Loma Prieta (Palo Alto, California)

chapter, who have signed similar resolutions.

If you've written to me about similar resolutions being signed, and I

have not been heard 'round the world yelling for joy, that means I

didn't see it -- or receive it, as I had email problems several times.

Anyway, if any of you are interested in revisiting the topic with

your local SC chapters, now might be the golden opportunity.

Healthy, Happy New Year!

hugs,

barb

The Citizen's Petition, Docket Number 99P-1340/CP 1 -- requesting

FDA-required warning labels on fragrances -- is still open.

Tell the FDA about your adverse reactions to fragrances and/or

tell the FDA people have the RIGHT TO KNOW about toxins used

to formulate synthetic fragrances.
