Apparently, the amygdala is involved in influencing libido (especially in men - see this link: http://my.webmd.com/content/article/83/97753.htm) So I'm hypothesizing that a shrunken amygdala resulting from prolonged SSRI use could cause persistent sexual dysfunction even after discontinuance of the drug. I've had this problem - was on celexa (20 mg/day) for two years, been off it for one year, but my sex drive and orgasm are not back to normal. I'm hoping that the brain's innate repair capabilities will overcome the damage, given sufficient time. After all, if stroke victims can recover from more severe damage, we can recover from the lesser damage of SSRI's.
