Guest guest
You were right in telling that her symptoms sound like endometrosis. My daughter suffered from severe pain right before & during her period. The doctor suspected she may have a touch of endometrosis....at the time she was only 15. He put her on birth control pills. Said it would help, since the lining of the uterus doesn't build up as much when taking birth control pills. Since she's been on the pill, she doesn't have the pain anymore. Of course, there's different degrees of endometrosis where birth control pills don't help. Also, yeast infections are more common in women who take the pill. 's problem could possibly be the pill....just a thought. Diane

I'm going to feel really dumb if I could have helped my pain years ago by getting off pills! Has anyone else had this experience? Has anyone tried an alternate form of birth control to see if it makes a difference? thanks,
Guest guest
Has your doctor ever mentioned Endometriosis? The symptoms you describe sound like those experienced by women with Endo. Guest guest
Just for the record, I started VV about 11 months ago. About 4-5 months ago, I went on birth control pills to regulate bleeding problems. So, for me, BCPs didn't cause VV. Kathy G.

Has anyone tried an alternate form of >birth control to see if it makes a difference? When this subject was first mentioned it rang a few bells. At the time I didn't want to comment on it as I had put my vv down to several other things, and didn't want people to think that I was contradicting myself, and the fact that I have had several discussions with several doctors about this who all say it isn't the cause (but they're wrong about most things, so why not this?), and that I should stay on it incase I get 'the urge'. As I recall, my vvs started almost immediately after starting the pill (at this time I was also getting a lot of cystitis). I had taken the pill previously, but this time there was something like a year or so break before I went back on it. My pill was called 'Celeste' or something similar. I took it for about 2 1/2 years and stopped taking it about a year ago. I'm sorry to report that it hasn't cured anything, but I do believe it may have caused the initial problem, and my body can't get over it. I have just read some later mails and want to add that I (as far as I know) have never had a yeast infection, although that is what I am being treated for, and my swabs always come back clear. I do, on the other hand have doubts as to whether I have a mild case of endo. I hope that this is of some help Warm regards - .@...
Guest guest
Yes, I have recently gone off of my birth control pills and my chronic yeast infections have stopped. I now know that the birth control pills were a big contributing factor in being able to get rid of this. However, now I have the exact opposite, which is too many lactobacillis (which are shaped weird in my case). Doctors think this could be a new species? Anyway, we are trying to get rid of it without me taking antibiotics. I've been using baking soda douches, but they tend to irritate me terribly and make me *raw* for a few days afterwards. Now my doc wants me to take a non-steroid anti-inflammatory to try to calm the whole area down. I'm a little hesitant because it has a long list of side effects. Guest guest
Just for the record, my VV started many years before I even understood what a birth control pill did:) I have yet to figure out what started mine....sigh...I really wish I knew. Guest guest
Aimee, I definately notice an increase in vv since being on the pill. I think several people on this list have also mentioned this. My doctor said several of his patients complain of the same thing. It must have something to do with the hormones. I have not had an infection in years so I am not sure of the connection there, but I think there is one. Beckie
Guest guest
In answer to Aimee and birth control pills, I had a similar situation. I have had I.C. and VV for years. It really excalated into a constant problem in 1987. About 7 months ago I was put on birth control pills to control heavy bleeding due to peri-menopause. My VV got much worse when I started with Lo Estrin and got a little better on Modicon. I do think, in my case anyway that the pill made matters worse. The pill can also cause yeast infections which could make symptoms worse as well. Maybe Aimee could try another brand of pills with the smallest ammount of estrogen and progesterone. Guest guest
I was thinking about the birth control issue too. I realized that when I was first on the pill, freshman in college, I started having painful sex, had never had painful sex before. I was only on the pill for six months, so I didn't think much of it. But after I was off it, I only have painful sex a few times. Then, last summer when my fiancee and I moved in together, I went on the pill again. This was about 4 years after the first time. This is when the pain seriously came back, especially after I was treated for a bacterial infection. Maybe there's a connection. Anyone else been on the pill and had an infection and VV seemed to start of flare up? Aimee
