Hi all you fellow RSD'ers,

Just a quick note to let eveyone know all went well and I am feeling

okay. Have been taking oxycontin, vistaril and amitriptyline and I sleep

most of the time. Just wanted to check e-mail and see how everyone is.

I will get back to my e-mail later as my leg is starting to throb. It is

wrapped from the ball of my foot all the way up to my hip! Can't wait

until Monday when the doc unveils his handiwork. Everyone have a great

weekend and take care,

DJ/Debbie

Hi DJ/Debbie

I am so glad to hear that your surgery went well. I'm a little bit behind

with my email, that's why the delay.

Rest, and listen to Drs. orders! I think that we've all seen that is vital

to all of us.

Keep me posted!

Hugs to you!

Jo,

I am happy to hear your husband is doing better. I hope you are well

too. My healing process is also coming along nicely and the doc says to

go ahead and walk on my leg and let my pain be my guide. He says it

looks really good (if you ignore the purple, blue, red and yellow

bruising from the ankle to the groin area on the inside of my leg) and I

can even go bike riding as long as I ride like a little old lady! LOL I

told him I have been a little old lady for 10 years now and he laughed.

I go back again in 2 weeks for a follow up and an ultrasound of the

abdominal aneurysm in my aorta. 8 years ago my family doc told me it was

nothing someone my age should worry about. I never asked him how old I

should be before I started to worry! LOL I would think size is more

important than age. Anyway, that may be next on the agenda except that I

also have the microsurgeon waiting for his turn and then there is the GYN

and endometriosis........ Seems like you clear one hurdle and 2 more

appear. Anyway, all is well for now and my leg is doing well. Let me

know how everyone is there. Take care,

DJ/Debbie

Hi DJ/Debbie!

I'm glad that your surgery went so well! It doesn't sound like it escalated

your RSD. I know what you mean about clearing one hurdle just to get to the

next. I think that you're on the right path at least.

I decided to go for a full physical (I love to hear Drs. tell me to lose

weight), so that I can deal with any problems not related to the RSD. I seem

to blame everything on the RSD, but there may be something(s) I can do if I

have an underlying condition that I'm not aware of.

My pain Dr. cares nothing about my general health problems, he tells me he's

there solely to make my pain/life bearable. And to RX meds. He made me sign

a contract where I will not receive RX from any other Drs. so that he can

monitor my " maintenance " meds, which is fine with me!

Please make sure you follow Drs. orders! It truly is the best and quickest

way to recuperate!

Take good care!

Hugs to you!

Jo,

I will try to address both letters in this one and keep things together

for a change! LOL I am glad Doug regained full mobility and got past

his crisis. As far as addressing other medical issues, I believe there

is much we can do to minimize the impact the RSD plays in out lives.

This is why I decided to go ahead with the surgery. Eliminating the

constant aching of the veins in this leg will eliminate that part of the

discomfort that feeds RSD and make me feel better by about 10 % at at

least. I know that anything that happens to this leg, a bee sting, a

paper cut, or simply twisting it a little too far can set off the RSD big

time but I had to do this. Given my past history of 3 surgeries on the

RSD affected ankle and no increase in pain I felt it was an acceptable

risk. I just hope I remember to moderate surgeries and allow myself time

to heal in between. My doctors are all a lot more cautious than I am and

for that I am grateful. They have all gone to great lengths to minimize

the risk of aggravating the RSD at all times. The block I got Friday

during the surgery I am sure helped also. I have been fortunate to have

been referred to the best, caring and compassionate docs in the area. I

believe we can control the RSD to some extent by taking care of anything

physically or emotionally that might be feeding the RSD. Like you said

your doctor would probably tell you to lose weight. I know that when I

gain a few pounds my leg hurts more. So I cut back and it feels better.

Not sure why, just know that it does. Doc says it is because there is

less pressure on the veins and leg in general. I have also noticed that

if I stick to a regular sleep pattern I feel better. Eating healthy

foods also makes a difference in the level of pain I feel. Exercise

(rather the lack of it) helps keep everything under control also. The

trick is to balance all of these and still be me. The " real " Debbie goes

non stop from sunup to sundown and gets everything done in a day's time.

This " Debbie " has to take regular breaks and takes 2 days to get

everything done in a day's time! LOL I have gotten better about pacing

but it is still a struggle. Well, I wish you luck with your physical and

hope you can find some ways to help alleviate your discomfort. Take care

and don't be afraid to try new treatments within reason. There are many

ways to deal with RSD and minimize it's effects on us.

DJ/Debbie
