Guest guest
Hi You really will be fine. My only fear for the surgery was anesthesia. So I guess in a way I was fortunate. I never really gave into the fear of losing function or losing anything...as long as I woke up after the surgery, I would be okay. It's still this way with me, although I am getting better about anesthesia with each surgery. Speaking of which...did you know you can call the company that manages the anesthesiologists and request a certain one? I didn't know who to request, (I also didn't know this 'till this last surgery this year), but I asked the secretary to please give me a pediatric anesthesiologist, no nurse anesthist (believe it or not, they had one in my surgery twice.) She assigned this great guy who really knew his stuff and before I even mentioned to the prep nurses my fear of anesthesia, they all commented on how lucky I was to get him. You can also talk with the nurse/practicioner that will be doing the nerve monitoring during your surgery and you can request to talk to the doctors that will be in charge of your pain mgt. after surgery. I did all of this before this last surgery and it really made a difference. Although I do hope your nsg pulls through and gets you all the toys you've requested from him. You sound like me with my nsg. I wanted to write on my back before my last surgery, something funny with lipstick or eyeliner, showing him where to open me up. Guest guest
Good idea Kathy I think I will do that...I have a beautiful tattoo on my back right where he is going to cut...I asked him if he could like maneuver around it some way..he told me when it's all done I can have a picture of a scalpel or a spine tattooed there....funny guy Kathy > Kathy , > Thanks so much for your honesty on everything...I think I just have a case of the last minute jitters...I think everyone on this list knows what they are.....I am feeling better, but still a little nuttin fuks (as someone once said ahha).....my NSG had told me to email him if there was anything I wanted or needed to know..so I did ..I asked for a Morphine Pump...with some duck tape to put over the button...and a Porsche Boxter.....pref blue with a tan convertible top...leather interior.....5 speed.....now...lets see if he stands true to his word..... > > > __________________________________________________________________ > Dolnick > Domestic Goddess > ICQ#: 52013502 > Current ICQ status: > + More ways to contact me > I See more about me: > __________________________________________________________________ > > > >
Guest guest
Funny that you brought up tattoo's on the back. I asked my nsg if he thought it would be okay to get a tattoo over my incision and he said no way...not unless I wanted a huge mess on my back. The scar tissue underneath would be too much to go through with the fine needle they use for tattoos. He said he's seen people try to hide their back incisions with tattoos and he's yet to see one come out nice. My hubby has seven so I thought I'd try getting one to hide the damn scar...but I don't dare now. Let us know how the tattoo turns out also! Guest guest
You could get a tattoo around the scar. Like a beautiful vine of roses. The scar could be the vine and the leaves and roses would surround it, instead of being right over it!! How's that for an idea? I have two tattoos, so I'm all for tattoos on women! I think everyone needs to have at least one. --- Moulton wrote: > Funny that you brought up tattoo's on the back. Guest guest
I'm even more of a wuss (sp?) as I won't get my ears pierced. In hospital I would not let anyone come towards me with a needle unless I had had some skin anaesthetic cream! The Pain clinic offered me acupuncture, which I thought was rather ironic! Guest guest
lol It's not really funny, I know. It does get old when people try to pick on you about it. But it's nice to hear when people are like me. When I am in the Hospital, they have to have a darn good reason to be in there to take my Blood, otherwise I will send them out. I totally hate Needles. I am alittle better about it then I used to be, but still. Since I work in a Hospital, I had to have a few more Vaccinations and Shots, I did pretty good, I didn't Scream or Cuss. lol But I did tense up and hold my Breath. I have to get my Blood drawn one more time for this in about a Week to make sure my Antibodies are all up to Par, not looking forward to it. Yeah, people do come up with the most Ironic things........it's like DUH, what are you thinking!?! I can deal much better with worse, but please don't stick me with a Needle. lol Me mymocha@... > I'm even more of a wuss (sp?) as I won't get my ears pierced. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, They have just past the first week and I have not heard from them yet so I guess at this stage everything is fine. I think of three crying t the same time, needing to be fed at the same time. My son and I always joked about me letting my hair go grey when I became a grandmother, my son always said to dye it blue (did you have the blue hair elderly over there?). I'm plaining on dyeing my hair blue! I wasn't able ask too much about Klonapin so I'll leave it until I see my GP. When I get the jerks in the top half I jerk forward, my wrists twist and at times I hit myself in the face. So far my legs just kick out. It looks as though I will be moving sometime in the next few months. I'm in government housing and they are looking for a place that will me modified for wheelchair as the house I'm in is not suitable anymore. I may only get a two bedroom and I'll need to get rid of a lot as I live in a three bedroom at the moment. I'm dreading the work that I will have to do and I can't get my son to help out too much. I don't even know where I'll be moving to until they find a place for me. I hope it is after the new year. Cherie Moulton wrote:Hey Cherie When will you know about the babies!! This is so exciting and I think it would be great to have three at once (well, let me rephrase that..I think it would be great to have a daughter-in-law have three babies-not my daughters or me though ...heheehheehe...meanie, aren't I?) Either way, three at once...wow! You better get that Klonapin so you can help out without jerking around when you transfer. Actually, all kidding aside, those myoclonic jerks are horrible. They were painful to me when they were in the upper body and annoying as hell in the lower body. No sign they were coming, just a full body jerk. As I've said before, after about ten of them, I was wide awake and couldn't sleep. Now, not only does Klonapin take the jerks away (although I had two last night even with Klonapin..hmmm), but the Klonapin makes you drowsy so it's a bonus. Let me know what your nurse says. They can have terrible side-effects on people and I have a friend that experienced them first hand, but I have not had one problem and I'm on my high dosage, Rick isn't having trouble, and my dad was on this for years and years and years for panic attacks. Guest guest
I have come very close many times to running out of pain meds (once my Dr office had lost my chart, while i was waiting for my meds to be re-filled) but what i have learned from many chronic pain people was as soon as you get your meds, put some away " like an emergency stash " I am supposed to be taking up to 8 Vicodin a day w/a Vistaril, well i have cut that amount by 1/2 per day (i did this on my own, my Dr does not know this) so by doing this i am " stocking up " on my meds and when 30 days have passed i will call to get another rx for my meds (even though i have 1/2 of my meds left and my " emergency stash " this way when work comp stops paying for my meds i will still have some left. This may not work for everyone, but for me it works, obviously i do not trust work comp!
