Guest guest
Hi Bo, You said: <<If I try to tell myself that it is something physical then I feel like I don't have any control and that I am going to get stuck that way. I would get these feeling before any drugs, I feel like I am stoned and like 10 miles away from everyone else, and I hear myself talking but it doesn't feel like it is me. >> ***People can have these feelings when they have a history of trauma. Unfortunately, when they talk about it they are usually given these drugs, which only make it worse. You did tell me that the feelings of derealization and depersonalization have gotten worse since taking the drugs. What makes you feel like you have some control over these feelings? I have found that when I can name a physical basis for an uncomfortable emotional state, I feel more able to deal with it. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, if it's physical, there is usually something that can be done about it. Second, it's usually time-limited. Tell yourself you are NOT going to get stuck that way, that it's a part of the healing process, that it can be worked with. When you worry about getting " stuck that way " , do you mean forever? You're not going to get stuck there forever. It may feel terrible at the time, but nothing is going to happen. You're not losing your mind. And you are not alone--a lot of people experience this. There will ALWAYS be something you can do to help yourself. You may not be able to snap yourself out of it right away every time, but you can ease your own way through it. There are things that can help. It CAN get better. It DOES get better. I'm sorry, I can't remember: are you taking the recommended supplements? People who have been traumatized should try to keep in mind that this derealization/depersonalization is partly (only PARTLY--a lot of it really is physiological and can be addressed that way) a coping mechanism that the mind came up with to deal with trauma. It worked very effectively to provide protection during childhood. It doesn't work well in adulthood, but it's good to be aware of how very resourceful the mind can be. It is able to come up with protective mechanisms when the individual is too young to even evaluate a situation. If your mind was able to take care of you then, it can also take care of you now. It just needs some re-training. Stress and trauma take their toll physically as well. In fact, I think the primary toll is physical. When someone is in a constant state of fight-or-flight, their nervous system and bodily systems get worn down, and they can end up with some of the same symptoms you describe. The best way to begin addressing this is nutritional support. The body can't heal well without it. ALL of this is about healing. Bodily healing and emotional healing go hand in hand. suggests that you try rebounding--that is, bouncing on a mini-trampoline. The bouncing can do some amazing things for the whole nervous system (there's a whole book about this, but I can't find it and can't remember the title. I'll post it when I think of it). I bought a bouncer for $5.00 at a yard sale. It's definitely worth a try. I hope this is making sense. It's late and I'm tired. Big hugs to you! Guest guest
Hi Bo, You said: <<I am assuming that shared the email that I sent via her personal email address>> ***No. She wouldn't share it without permission. She did tell me that there is some trauma history. I kind of extrapolated from there. <<It is really hard not to think that because of drugs or my past that I somehow short circuited my brain. Like it will never be able to reprogram itself into feeling safe again. >> ***That's an understandable feeling. However, you're just going to have to change it :-) Start believing that things CAN get better--because they can. This doesn't mean that you aren't changed by the drugs and by your experience. That's a given. It just means that there is ALWAYS a way to go on, to adapt, to improve and heal. Really. No case is hopeless. You will come to a new place in your life--a place you never expected--and you will be stronger and better for all of this. <<Right now I take the fish oil, magnesium, calcium, and sometimes the goatein. But, I don't know at what amounts I should be taking for my size or age or whatever. >> ***I'm really glad you got the Supralife products. Take an ounce of each per day to start. let us know how you feel on them. Dosage instructions for magnesium are in the Files (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Withdrawal_and_Recovery/fil es/), under Supplements, under Magnesium and Calcium. For fish oil, if you are taking Carlson's, one teaspoon per day is fine. Read Post #10262 for more fish oil info. With these supplements, you don't need to worry about size and age because these are therapeutic amounts for people trying to heal. The recommendations are for all adults. <<Also don't know which foods could be hurting me and such. Just need a plan. >> ***We have some good info in the Files. Under Nutrition, read " Controlling Blood Sugar " , " Nutrition Guidelines " , and " Nutrition and 'Mental Illness' " for starters. They should get you started. Hang in there, Hon. You WILL feel better. Everybody's pulling for you here. Hugs, Kim
Guest guest
<< didn't mean to come off like I was upset with you if you had read the email that I sent to . >> ***I didn't think you were upset, actually--I just wanted to assure you that we get permission before sharing private emails. <<Is there a certain time of day to take the toddy's and should i take them together?>> ***Try taking the Ultra Body Toddy in the morning (after breakfast if your tummy is sensitive) and the Mineral Toddy before bed. It's better to take them separately. << Thanks again for the help>> You're more than welcome!! I know you will pass it along someday. The goal is to take at least an ounce of each a day. For those of you who find themselves to be sensitive to supplements begin at a teaspoon. If that is too much, do it by drops (4 drops to begin). Most people can handle half an ounce to an ounce. An ounce of the vitamins should be sufficient in the majority of cases. I've found 1-3 ounces of the minerals to be optimal at least in the first three months. After that, usually 1-2 ounces is good. It is good if you can do two ounces. The minerals go a long way in supporting the body to heal. Regards,
