,

I have suffered from depression long before my AOSD. I have gone through not

having an appetite due to depression, and ALSO do to AOSD. Right now, the ONLY

time I will eat, is if I have to to stop passing out. Otherwise, I NEVER get

hungry. I am so nausiated so much of the time, food is just disgusting to me.

This is because of my AOSD. When I lose my appetite due to depression, I just

forget to eat, or just " dont feel like it " . Prozac helps me quite a bit. The

last few days my anxiety attacks have come back, and I cant control them, so I

will likely be on an anti-anxiety as of Saturday when I see the doc. My GI doc

says my AOSD has likely affected my gall bladder, and tyhats why I vomit so much

and have no appetite.

My son has AOSD (33 yrs old) and while he still manges to work (4 days on/4 days

off) he may not be able to continue doing that for much longer. He's a truck

driver. Aside from that issue...I'm concerned about the amount of weight he has

lost. He says he is not hungry (hardly EVER) and only will eat if it is in front

of him. He knows he should be eating but said that there is nothing in his

stomach that triggers or tells him that he is hungry. I'm worried that it is a

sign of depression. I know he's been blue since his wife left him (she did not

" sign up to be his nurse " ) but he was losing weight before then. Is this a

common thing? Also, he is now taking a whole load of various vitamins and

minerals every day as he knows his body needs something to keep going. Thanks.

greetings linda,

i'll start with the question at hand.  i have not had a true appetite in years.

i will get occational cravings for a specific food, but rarely am i ever really

hungry.  and yes, depression has reared it's nasty little head more than once

in my life.  that is the short answer version.  i will try to post the long

answer version in a seperate e-mail.

blessings,

When I am flaring, I drop weight very quickly.  Even eating what I normally do,

I lose it.  Most of the time, I don't feel like eating, though, which doesn't

help.  His MTX could be causing loss of appetite, too.  And, depression is

definitely a culprit.  I believe that anytime a person deals with a chronic

illness (esp with pain), anti depressants are a good idea.  He should ask his

doc about this.  And since his wife left, he may need counseling.  So sorry

about that for him!  My husband at the time (now my ex!) used to tell me I was

a hypochondriac.  It did not hit him until after our divorce and seeing me bone

thin finally convinced him something was wrong.  I know that's not the case

with your son, but just letting you know that others have dealt with

spouses/significant others who have bailed b/c of Stills.

Let us know how he's doing.

when Gail said "  he may need counseling " I will take that farther it is not he

may it is he dose period flat out! This is also why I have said from the time

one is DX both there self and there house hold need to get some as Stills

changes what we think of life and how we see it his wife and my wife along with

other her both male and female having had there partnes leave them because of

this illness can atest to that but I would also be willing to say it was not

just the illness but that it was the last straw of the many on the camels back.

Now I say this as my deprestion did take me to a very dark and deep corner of

life one were no one should go and not many walk away from. I was lucky and I

know it but given 5 more miniuts and I would not even be here to write this that

is how close I came just some thing about carcaol and EMTS working fast pluss my

faith that stopped it all but I may not have good schooling in book learning but

in life I have way to much as it is one dang PHD no one needs! Now I try to use

what I learned from that time for good and I do not lock it away as some dark

secret never to be let out . yes I am not happy about what I did but I do know

it was not me befor stills and all the meds and any one that knew me that will

tell you the same but now with stills deprestion is a part of my life and a

thing I fight but again knowing it is not me being crazy but more a side efect

from some meds helps but then again at my age maybe life has made me crazy after

all I did re

marry! just joking but lost a wife stills got better got a wife stills got

worse hmmmm maybe  o now see there i go driving my self nuts LOL any way all

joking aside this is no joking matter and to be hit like i was with a wife that

basicaly tell you your a bag of garbage and throw youout of there life ,your

looking at your life working ending maybe for good and I bet much more it will

drive even a strong person to there knees in weakness. I know been there done

that hated it got better now live again and so can he
