Tom I wish that guy luck and hope he makes a football team. I hope he does not have trouble with the heat like I do. Maybe his MS is still mild and does not cause him much troubles. It would be interesting if someone in the group knew of a way to make email contact with him. I would like to follow his progress as he tries to make the team.

I had a local plumber fix my pipes and he turned out to have MS. He was in great shape and still is active racing cars at http://www.andersonspeedway.com/ .

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers officially added offensive lineman Kiawatha Downey to the team's roster Wednesday. Downey was signed after appearing in the 49ers first mini-camp as a tryout. However, what makes the undrafted free agent more impressive is the fact that he lives with multiple sclerosis -- a disease that affects the central nervous system.

He is the first active NFL player with the disease. Downey takes weekly medication, and suffers from fatigue and headaches. “That’s a tremendous thing for him to get an opportunity to play professional football with MS. It’s a very, very special story. It just says a lot about him. Our front office gave him a chance. He looked good in our mini-camp. We’ll be excited to watch him play,” said head coach Dennis kson. A Division II All-America guard at Indiana University-Pennsylvania, Downey was invited to the Indianapolis combine workouts but went undrafted. May I say something here....(keeping in mind that this is simply MY OWN OPINION) but I must say it. I said it in the beginning and I feel like I need to say it again!! Since when did this Disease Become "OURS"? It's Not Our Disease, It's Downey's disease, it's not your's, it's not mine, it is literally not anyone's disease!!!!

Did you go the store and purchase it? Was it a gift from a friend or family member? Do you really want it? Can you take it back to the store and exchange it for another?? The answer to all these questions is simply "NO"!!!!!

And since that answer is "NO", Why do you want to claim OWNERSHIP of something that FORMED within your body and is making you ill? What kind of since does that make? NONE!!! This is A Disease...An Illness. It is something we didn't ask for, we didn't purchase, our friends and family didn't wrap it up in a cute little bow and give it to us as a gift for Christmas, and we can't exchange for another at the store! It is merely a bump in the road, a path we must be on at the moment. It is merely An Illness that has no cure at the moment!!

AS far as I am concerned Downey, CAN and WILL do this...If Montel can keep his Show Alive all these years, If Clay Can Keep Touring his Concerts under those HEAT LAMPS for the shows ALL THESE YEARS, If That Girl can RACE in NASCAR (which is VERY HOT)...than DOWNEY can do this!! He WILL PLAY FOOTBALL, and those of us who love football WILL SIT BACK AND WATCH PROUDLY!!

In the mean time...I have to say..that I am SICK AND TIRED of people claiming ownership of an ILLNESS, A DISEASE...Claiming ownership (Again, My Opinion) Only Show WEAKNESS...And I have already given you 3 examples of people who REFUSE TO DO JUST WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!! Claiming OWNERSHIP Will only hold you back!!! Doesn't look like Montel, Clay, , or Downey.....Are Claiming OWNERSHIP..And they are Certainly not LETTING IT HOLD THEM BACK!!!

I back Downey 1000%, and BRAVO, for the 49ers on giving the man a CHANCE!!! For the sake of what we go through DAILY, For the Sake of this disease and a CURE to be found SOON...PRAY For him...and BACK HIM UP!!! The more people like Him, Montel, Clay, and come out and start FIGHTING FOR THIS DISEASE...The better off we will be later on, the sooner a Cure will be found. We have Very WEALTHY Spokes Persons, Standing Up for us!!! Putting their MONEY, into Finding a Cure, Into Building Foundations to Help Find a CURE!! We Have Teri Garr Touring with Lectures...I am tell you FOLKS...A CURE WILL COME, and IT WILL COME SOON!!! And it is because PEOPLE ARE FINALLY SPEAKING UP!!! RICH OR POOR...WE ARE FINALLY SPEAKING UP!!! SO, Quite Claiming Ownership, Standup and Be Proud...Becuase we have some greats out there bringing this disease to light...bringing attention to it. Quit being so Apprehensive about it all!! This is the BEST thing that can happen for us..

Ohhh On a side note....You can bet your Bottom Dollar I will be watching this guy...(I love Football) But to see a man with this disease, play such a Painful sport in the first place...It is going to be VERY hard on him and I WILL BE WATCHING HIS EVERY MOVE!!!
