Guest guest
Hey, I worked in hosptials for about 15 years altogether. You really can't assume the nurse or doc knows what they are doing! On a recent visit for heart cath and 2 stents, I told the doc in the ER that I had chronic pain plus restless leg syndrome and would need pain meds on a regular basis to stay comfortable. The first time I asked for pain meds following the stents the nurse said, " That's not your heart and that's the only thing you get pain med for " I got real loud and threatened to call the doc and the hospital nursing director. I have found this works real good with nursing staff. My doc wrote and additional order saying I could have Morphine, Demerol, Hydrocodone or Darvon on a 2 hour basis. The nurse was definitely frosted and would't come back into my room. But the important thing is I made my needs known and got them met in a timely fashion. Never assume in a hospital! I did ask for something for pain, indicated I was in such pain that I couldn't sleep ( they permitted me one 5 mg Ambien though I took 10 mg size at home--wouldn't call the doc.
