When I take Flexeril, it has about as much affect on me as if I'd had a mint candy. Same with Soma. ***************MY REPLY: I understand the frustration, but playing Devil's advocate here a moment.....these Drs are dealing with folks that tolerate low doses quite well, then they get a patient like some of us, and have to CAREFULLY prescribe heavy duty narcotics for pain. My Dr calls me his " trooper " because I was on the highest doses of oxycontin (160 mg every 8 hours) among other meds like valium and visteril, etc. He said I take the highest doses of everything, but he knew it gave me relief. Go figure, his local pharmacies have reported him, and refer to him as a drug pusher. Matter of fact, they stopped carrying the doses of meds he prescribes. I think that's a shitty thing to do to the patient s well as the Dr! Anyway, my point was SUPPOSED to be in response to someone saying: It is no wonder that doctors don't know what to prescribe for chronic pain people. I guess the Dr starts with the lowest dose, and moves on up as he gets to know the patient. Does that make sense? It just stinks for those of us that have to slowly go up the prescription totem. By the way, I am no longer on the oxy. My Cobra insurance ran out after my husband was laid off, and the " out of pocket cost " was well over $1,100.00. We tried MS contin, because it was cheaper, a whole $400.00 a month.........we just couldn't afford it, and it didn't work nearly as well. I am now on loads of methadone, which is much cheaper (under $100.00), it isn't as effective as the oxycontin ever was, I just know that it's better than nothing, and I am sure without it, I would be in unbearable pain, so I have to at least be grateful for the methadone, valium, and vistaril. I don't know where all my babble came from, I DO apologize. I just meant to send a 2-3 line reply, lol. Be well everyone..........Blessings from Janie in NC
