Guest guest
I couldn't live with my earplugs. A must for anybody with this condition. I am really beginning to think my daughter has misophonia as well. This college semester she is having severe trouble with new neighbors who stomp around above her all the time while she is trying to study or do homework, and she is having trouble sleeping because of the noise. They are up throughout the night stomping (or maybe just walking) around. Any ideas? I bought her a white noise machine, but she says it makes the room too hot even with her a/c at 66 degrees. She cant sleep with music on either. Any other ideas?
Guest guest
A powerful fan will drown out a lot of sound and cool the room off. I have slept with a fan for over 40 years. I use a Patton Air Circulator (not actually a fan) that I got at Costco for $40.00. Thought it was a fan but really an air circulator. The low setting is loud enough to drown out most noises.....on medium or high....fuggedaboutit!! Kind of large, a bit over 2 feet in diameter, but sleep is important. Guest guest
Wow, that's great that you can use earplugs. I wish I could, but I can't handle anything in my ears, I'd be ripping them out. What about white noise ear phones that go over the ears? They're not " ear-buds " and they would at least block out the noise and help your daughter relax, and maybe fall asleep...at least until the upstairs neighbors go to bed themselves. > > > I am really beginning to think my daughter has misophonia as well. Guest guest
I had the EXACT same problem this semester. I moved into an apartment with overweight people right above me who seemed to stomp around all day and night. Here are a few things that helped: 1. (while studying) Sony mdr-nc60 headphones while listening to this video on repeat (http://youtu.be/k0gsduLrfSU) I could literally not hear ANYTHING else when I did that. 2. (while sleeping) I got a pretty expensive sound machine on Amazon.com and it does not give off any heat (it's electronic) It's the " Ecotones Sound + Sleep Machine, Model ASM1002 " It has 10 different sounds on it (rain, waterfall, fireplace, meadow, city, train, white noise, etc, etc) and while it won't completely cover up footsteps from the floor above, it definitely helps. I can't sleep without it now. (If you get it, use the " city " setting, it works the best. I definitely feel for your daughter. It's really frustrating having trigger sounds in the place that you live.. the one place that is supposed to be trigger free. I really hope she finds something to help her. And if all else fails, maybe they can move her to the topmost floor or the apartment so that nobody will be above her. > > I am really beginning to think my daughter has misophonia as well. Guest guest
Definitely a fan. I can't sleep with music on either but I can listen to nature sounds... something that is steady like the sounds of a river, or ocean waves. > > I am really beginning to think my daughter has misophonia as well. Guest guest
Thank you for the video! I also have an upstairs neighbor who, while not excessively noisy, does bother me quite a bit. The thunder really drowns him out, and I've always loved listening to thunderstorms! > > > > I am really beginning to think my daughter has misophonia as well.
