Hello All,

I am new to the group and feel as though I have found long lost family members.

I am amazed and relieved to hear that there are so many cross over symptoms that

many of us seem to share. I always thought that my sensitivity to sound was a

separate issue from my problems with certain visual stimuli and repetitive body

motions. I figured I was just one big bag of neuroses.

I am not familiar with any research being done, and I was wondering if anyone

considered doing PET scans or functional MRIs while subjects were being exposed

to the noxious stimuli. Also, for those of us that find great pleasure in other

sounds, it would be interesting to see what " lights up " when we are exposed to

those. I asked a neuro-otologist that I work with about this-he found the idea

fascinating, but had never even heard of misophonia before. Clearly there is

much work to be done!!

So glad to have found you all. Reading your posts has been so comforting to me.

This has actually been a very emotional week of self discovery.

Hi Eileen,

I am new here too. Just found out on the Today Show that what I have suffered

with through my life had a name. It's been very emotional for me also. This

syndrome or whatever it is, has stolen my life. I have missed so much due to the

anxiety and actual fear of getting into a situation that I cannot get out of.

I'm always thinking of an excuse I can use if I have to leave... it's like it's

always there but you never know when it's going to show it's ugly head!

Another thing that I have experienced is fatigue. It really is exhausting

waiting for the sounds to happen. Or for them to go away. Or methods of covering

them up. Or trying to explain to someone who thinks you're crazy. May sound

weird, but that's how I feel sometimes. You know there's always going to be

another... sometimes I find that I am sitting totally clutched from head to toe.

When I realize it, I relax and take some deep breaths.

I think we are all interested in whatever research can be collected. I'm so

thankful for this site!
