Guest guest
I was just spammed by someone named Mark Hughey who sent me information about " natural preservatives " . I htink poeple should test everything through google searches AND the FDA. I found in 5 minutes time, but since I am pretty much a soap maker and make little cosmetic products now I did not do FDA on this one. I got enough eyebrow rainging just by the ingredients: This Company's CLAIM: " Natrulon® PCG consists of patent-pending ratios of naturally-derived and GRAS ingredients under the INCI name of -Naturally-derived Cinnamomum Cassia Leaf Oil (CAS# 8007-80-5) and Potassium Sorbate (CAS#590-00-1) and Glycerin (CAS#56-81-5). Applications and Suggested Use Rates Natrulon® PCG is compatible in a diverse range of natural based product formulations, for example:Hair Care Shampoos, Conditioners, Rinses Skin Care Liquid Soaps, Shower Gels, Sensitive Skin Lotions, Moisturizers, Cold Creams Sun Products Sunscreen Lotions and Creams Raw Materials Surfactants, Shampoo Blends, Conditioner Blends " According to: http://ptcl.chem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/PO/potassium_sorbate.html and various sites when doinga good search: Potassium Sorbate is a FOOD fungicide. It can be an irritant. There was no mention of it as an approved cosmetic preservative for lotions or other cosmetics in the listing on google and I doubt very much it is stong enough to pass to keep cosmetics clean for long without another preservative to also kill mold and bacteria. I suggest this company show lab finding of a cosmetic product he made with this. Cinnamomum Cassia Leaf Oil is cinnamon essential oil and this is an irritant to many in soap let alone leave on products. Glycerin Since when did glycerin become a preservative? It feed bacteria according to cosmetic chemists, I thought. Have there been changes in that thinking? I suggest that anyone who else who may have been spammed and is interested in this product look through the FDA.gov site and see what the Cosmetic section of this site says about approved preservatives. This is what I found on a general search of potassium sorbate (acceptable in food) Code of Federal Regulations: 21 CFR 182 SUBSTANCES GENERALLY ... .... FOOD AND DRUGS CHAPTER I--FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT ... Chemical Preservatives Sec. 182.3640 Potassium sorbate. (a) Product. Potassium sorbate ... www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/fcf182.html - 01-02-2004 - Cached [ More results from www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/ ] but for cosmetics...... Your search - Potassium Sorbate + cosmetics - did not match any documents. No pages were found containing " Potassium Sorbate + cosmetics " .
