: /////////////////////*TIP OF THE WEEK*/////////////////////

:

: Our Safety Tip of the Week is courtesy of Jeff Chandler, safety

: officer/DOT coordinator with the American Red Cross Blood Services.

: " Provide disposable cameras in every company vehicle. Pictures tell

: 1,000 words and can assist in accident investigations. Reports are

: not always completed correctly and the information that is provided

: is not in enough detail to determine whose fault the accident was.

: The film will eventually expire. However, an $8.00 camera that is

: not used is nothing if it would save your company's insurance claims

: costs or time spent defending your company in the courtroom. " If you

: have a safety tip you'd like to share for publication, please send

: it to (mailto:mhauser@...)

:

: BUSH SIGNS AWAY ERGO STANDARD, BUT LABOR HINTS IT MAY NOT BE DEAD

: ISSUE

: As expected, on Tuesday President Bush signed the Resolution of

: Disapproval passed by both the House and Senate, repealing the OSHA

: ergonomics rule issued Jan. 14 by President Clinton. Although the

: language of the Congressional Review Act, under which the ergonomics

: rule was overturned, prevents any rule that is substantially the

: same as the one overturned from being passed, the ergonomics issue

: may not be entirely dead.

:

: HEARINGS IN PLACE FOR STATE TOXIC MOLD BILL

: A hearing has been set for April 4 to review a California state

: senator's proposal that would set permissible toxic mold exposure

: limits and set standards for identifying and remediating toxic

: molds. Sen. Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento) filed Senate Bill 732 last

: month, apparently the first statewide legislation to address the

: health risks of toxic mold.

:

: TIPS FOR DRIVERS AND CONSTRUCTION CREWS TO KEEP WORK ZONES SAFE

: Spring's higher temperatures also mean a higher number of road crews

: working on highways. The American Trucking Associations has put

: together several tips for motorists and construction crews that can

: help make work zones safer. The tips were compiled by the ATA's

: America's Road Team. Each Road Team Captain has a million-mile,

: accident-free record.

:

: NETWORKING WITH FALL PROTECTION EXPERTS

: Networking can lead safety managers to innovative ways of protecting

: workers, as attendees at last fall's International Society for Fall

: Protection symposium discovered. There, an Australian company argued

: that while fall arrest systems do save lives, they don't really

: prevent the fall from occurring. Managers, the company believes,

: should focus on fall prevention systems that require little or no

: user expertise or supervision, with PPE as a backup. And that means

: getting proactive.
