Dear Simon, for packages that weigh about1 lbs. or less, I believe the post office delivery is cheaper. However, for larger packages, I found that Fedex is the best choice(not UPS). I suggest that you go to _www.usps.com_ (http://www.usps.com) and play with the calculator there and also with the rates from Fedex and UPS and compare the difference yourself. Guest guest
How do you guys deal with the costs of shipping. It seems like when I ship things now days with UPS, the charges are always higher, due fuel charges and all kinds of other things that they don't put on the charts any longer. Is there a better way to ship? Is the PO any better? Also, I use UPS' WorldShip software which prints my UPS labels and shows me how much it will cost me to ship it. Another thing, make sure you use the proper charts, residential/commercial, there's a big difference in the rates and most places I ship are residential, so my shopping cart doesn't even give an option for commercial shipping... been burned by residential customers choosing commercial shipping, before.... Guest guest
Hi, I use the one rate box that the USPS offers quite a bit. Its one flat rate no mater how heavy or where it is going. The cost is $8.10. --- SIMON CALEB wrote: > How do you guys deal with the costs of shipping. Guest guest
The flat rate boxes do have a maximum: Maximum weight is 70 pounds, and the maximum size is 108 inches in length and distance around the thickest part combined. Guest guest
I also use USPS and the flat rate boxes. They come in two sizes and the flat rate will take up to 70 lbs. Priority mail is a better deal than UPS, unless you are shipping large packages, then try Fed X. USPS even furnishes the boxes. UPS is getting outrageous. Guest guest
Hi, It depends on what you are shipping. I most often use UPS. The ability to track and confirm the packages shipping progress and arrival are priceless. The USPS tracking is a joke. It seems like when I ship things now days with UPS, the charges are always higher, due fuel charges and all kinds of other things that they don't put on the charts any longer. Is there a better way to ship? Is the PO any better? The USPS Flat Rate box (approx. 8.5 " x11 " ) is awesome. I can ship citric acid, turbinado sugar, and salts more economically than ever because of them. The same rates (per pound) via another carrier are usually twice the cost, plus USPS will pick the boxes up for me, as long as I have 2 boxes with at least one of them being Priority or Express mail. You ship meats and oils, right? Maybe you can start packaging some of your items differently so they'll fit the boxes. For instance, I used to ship citric acid in two 7.5 lb. bags, but since I can ship for half the price in a flat rate box, I reconfigured to 3-5 lb. bags so they'd fit in the box more nicely. Saves about $7 in shipping/handling/packaging costs. Also, I ship oils in the 'square' jugs whenever possible instead of the normal 'vinegar' gallon jug. The square ones fit *great* into the flat rate box and still save $$$ in costs. Now no one has to wait to order until they need 4 gallons of something to fit in a box so that shipping is outrageous...they can order one at a time. Guest guest
I copied this from the USPS website re: flat rate boxes. Introducing a quick, easy, and convenient way for you to ship Priority Mail packages. The Postal Service has simplified the Priority Mail shipping process by introducing two new Flat Rate Box options - items that feature a predetermined rate regardless of weight or destination zone of the package, similar to the Flat Rate Envelope. A few key benefits of this new product: Any weight, any State, $8.10. No matter which Flat Rate Box you choose, the postage is $8.10, regardless of weight or destination. --- BandEDAY@... wrote: > The flat rate boxes do have a maximum: > > Maximum weight is 70 pounds, and the maximum size is > 108 inches in length > and distance around the thickest part combined. > > Beth > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > > > Lourenzo Millennium Soap & Herbal Skin Products www.soap-etc.com www.millenniumsoap.com __________________________________________________
