Guest guest
Terri: I am finding almost all kids who are chelating with the TD-DMPS (continuous chelation) who are using any kind of multiples coming up low and sometimes very low on the RBC elements for both zinc and selenium. I think these kids need pure zinc supplementation in addition to what anyone could provide in a multiple without it being too much for the kids not chelating. I give one or even two VRP's zinc monomethionine to the kids in addition to their multiples, and usually use Pic-Mins two daily to get the other nutrients in. If there is calcium in the mix, I wonder if it is interfering with zinc absorption? It has been amazing to me how much zinc these kids need, and believe it is one of the main reasons kids are having bad side effects to chelation. Guest guest
Does magnesium interfere with the absorption of zinc and the other minerals in Pic-Mins? I'm wondering if it's Ok to give some magnesium malate (or citrate) at the same time as the Pic-Mins. Guest guest
The only interference I know of is that zinc and calcium can combine in some way negating either of them being available for other metabolic needs. Guest guest
This is a big concern of mine, although Brett's last minerals test came out fine. When using TD-DMPS, we can only give minerals on half of the days, and when you take out 9-10 hours for sleep and 8 hours when he is at school, there are VERY limited opportunities for giving seperate minerals! I've been using the Brainchild minerals on " off " days, which has both calcium and zinc, and then supplementing zinc by itself on the " off " nights at bedtime by itself. (Well, actually with caprylic acid and folinic acid, since they can be given at the same time.) I'll be watching his zinc levels closely to see if they stay up OK; we had another RBC minerals drawn last week, so I should have the results soon. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Guest guest
Jacquelyn, I agree about the kids generally needing extra zinc on TD-DMPS. Brainchild makes a separate zinc product for precisely this purpose, which many of our clients doing chelation use in addition to the mega mins. There's a lot that can interfere with zinc and that most of the kids need a LOT of it. We suggest that this zinc be given away from other minerals, pref on empty stomach but with a bit of food if nausea occurs. There's really not that much calcium in our mineral formulas. After an initial very low RBC minerals, I found that it took twice the daily dose for my son's body weight of the mega minerals plus 2/3 oz of the LiquiZinc, on each " off " day, to get his mineral levels up (he's 150 lbs!). Our last one, after 8 months of TD-DMPS, showed zinc up to 80% pctile or so. Interestingly, calcium was a little low, at 25% or so. So this is a pretty good test case -- I gave my guy his megamins and zinc together, so in our case, at least, the calcium in the mix obviously did not interfere with zinc very much. My guy eats dairy, so I don't give extra calcium separately, although we do suggest that all of our clients on cf diets do so. Guest guest
Can you share the source for this info, Jacquelyn? I knew that zinc and calcium both don't play well with others, but this specific fact (that they combine and become unavailable) is not one I've seen before, and I'd love for to read it. I've always given all my son's zinc and calcium together and his mineral levels seem to be pretty healthy looking, so I'd like to learn more about this. Guest guest
I've heard it ever since I've been giving nutrients, and don't recall the source. I mostly ignored this advice actually until several of my chelation kids could not get the zinc up no matter how much I gave them and the calcium kept staying low too. Finally when I separated them they both got OK, so I'm a believer. In the new DAN! book by Pangborn and Baker, Pangborn says under the zinc section, Do not give with calcium. In the calcium section, he says Do not give with zinc. He does not say why, but does say that these two nutrients are generally noted to be deficient in ASD. When I get a chance(joke), I'll try to find something on this, or some of you e-sleuths could try to see what you can find out for all of us. Guest guest
I found this a while back when surfing on this topic. Ignore the fact that it came from a crazy website (for the record I am not into body building). The first link is a handy grid on how minerals interact. The second link is how that affects how they should be administered. Unfortunately there are no citations but it looks to be credible information. http://www.musclephotos.com/minerals.html http://www.musclephotos.com/supplemt.html > > > > > > > >I recently switched from SSII mins to mega mins for my 8 year > old > > >son > > > > > > > >Jack.
