Guest guest
It's All A Matter of Perspective We in North America make up 7 percent of the Earth's population. We use 25 percent of the world's coal, 30 percent of its oil, 32 percent of its natural gas and 33 percent of its nuclear and hydroelectric energy. Four times our share, if you believe in sharing. We all know this. We may be fuzzy on the details, but we know the earth can't support its present population at the present North American standard of living. It's not a matter of drilling in Alaska or not: the resources, so far as is known, don't exist. Because we are God's chosen, we don't care. We're Us. Everybody else is . . .. not Us. So we deserve all we can grab. Just for example, we pay about a buck-fifty for gas these days, and whine about it. I got an e-mail from a guy in England this morning who said he pays the equivalent of $4.55. In Italy it's $3.80, France $3.93, Spain $2.85. We drive our SUVs, turn up our thermostats and complain that we're paying too much.
