Guest guest
Thank you for your quick response. I will try the leg elevation and compresses now that he is on Christmas break. He has been off ALL medication for 4 wks except for the prednisone that was given 2 1/2 wks ago. As he was tapering down he had a HUGE flare again 2 days ago and they have since slightly resolved. In your experience with EN, How often are children affected? Why are more women affected than men? > > > > Hi I am a mother of a 17 y/o son who has just recently been diagnosed with EN. It started about 8wks ago with joint and muscle aches that we thought were due to medication for his acne. He was taking Soladyn with high doses of Vit A. We went to dermatologist and he switched his medication to Amoxicillin 500 mg 3x/day. Within a week my son started getting the red nodules. I was not informed of them until he had had them for 3-4 wks. He just thought they were bruises that would go away. I got him into our PCP who put him on Bactrim for any type of infection and he was still erupting with the nodules. He sent us back to the dermatologist who did a punch biopsy to confirm diagnosis and put on prednisone for 15 days. He said he can say he does not think it is due to a reaction to his medicine. He is on his last day of prednisone and it still has not stopped it in its tracks. They did do blood work and his CBC's were within normal limits. His ensinophils (sp) were elevated which the dr. did not seem to concerned. I am really starting to panic. The more I read about it the more I realize it is rare and even more rare for boys. We saw our PCP again today, I was hoping he would be a little more aggressive in trying to rule out a cause but as of right now we are playing the waiting game for 2 more weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Should I be concerned about the possibility of malignancy and make the doctors take a closer look. > > > > Thanks > > > > >
