You pay attention to your customers? Geez, Ron. You gotta take a class or

something from Grace's contractor.

This sounds like me. I don't swear, but only have so much patience.

Then I shake the rest of the day.

You did the right and (believe it or not) sensible thing. Obviously

this guy needed threats. I guess by now you know what you have to do.

I really appreciate your accounts of this mess, Grace. It helps all

of us avoid pitfalls and know what to ask if we ever get into this

situation. I'm just so sorry that you are having to learn it by

example.

That sucks.

6 weeks later, today, we are STILL waiting for this f%^*% & #$ plumber,

> who is standing in line at the courthouse,

Why is he standing in line at the courthouse? Is someone else suing

him? LOL I wouldn't be surprised.

You are ticked of to the nth degree of tickedoffticity, he deserved

even more than what you gave him.

Good

Tracey,

Well, sort of.

Not really, but kinda.

Within 30 minutes, the electrician was here and working.

About an hour after that - the plumber did show up. He was drilling and

making a lot of noise. They all left at 6 PM.

I ran over there, and saw only one faucet had been installed. The one in

the veggie sink... nothing in the main sink. OK, I am alright with that,

and I turn it on. Nothing. I look under the cabinet - - nothing. Oh, so

he had just put the faucet in. " I could have done this, " I think to myself.

I turn on the stove, and HOLY TOLEDO, I have HEAT. YES YES YES!!!!! I

click the vent, GOOD LORD, I have air! WOO HOO, I am back to civilization.

A great moment like this calls for coffee. Well, I still have no water from

the faucets, so I had to run to the bathroom to get water. I turn on the

faucet - - - -

NO WATER.

Man makes fire. Man has no water to boil though.

The plumber had turned all the water to the house off.

I called the contractor, who of course, did not answer, and left a message

saying, in these exact words, " I have no water. I have no water in this

house. Somebody forgot to turn on the water, and somebody better get back

here NOW AND GIVE ME BACK MY WATER! " Click.

He called me back in 2 minutes and told me how to turn it back on. So *I*

had to go through the wretched and wet bushes to reach for the damn valve

that turns the water on to the house.

HE CANNOT DO ANYTHING RIGHT, can he????????????

Tracey, that crossed my mind. And if he had not called back, I would have

been outside right now, digging his burial plot for him, since he would need

it tomorrow.

Thankfully, he called me back quickly, so I'm inclined to think that he

didn't do it on purpose. Besides, I think it would be the plumber's

responsibility to turn it back on since he did shut it off.

So they aren't evil. They are just completely incapable.

Grace,

The reason I brought the " money " point up is because this contractor is

required by law to carry a certain amount of liability insurance and perhaps

workman's compensation as well. If he is struggling to pay his

subcontractors, he is probably also behind on his insurance, or worse yet,

working without it, which is bad for you if something goes wrong (like your

house floods or catches fire due to faulty wiring, etc.).

Today, why don't you demand that he provide you with a copy of his CURRENT

insurance certificate. Don't let him bullshit around it. He can call his

insurance agent and have one prepared immediately and faxed to you . . . or

he can provide you with his insurance agent's name and phone number for you

to verify yourself.

If it turns out he is working without insurance, I would use that tidbit as

major leverage for him to complete his work within the next few days or you

will contact the state board. He could be fined majorly and perhaps face

criminal proceedings.
