Guest guest
Grace, It sounds as if your contractor is having a bit of a cash flow problem . . . in other words, he's spent the money you've given him already . . . and he's having to complete other jobs here and there to keep the money coming in to pay his subcontractors . . . perhaps he owes them money, too, and that's why they are not so eager to do any more work for him??? Doesn't your state have a licensing board for contractors or something??? -BJ
Guest guest
Grace, you did the right thing. I know that sounds dumb but this guy has been asking for it for so long it isnt even funny! I hope you lit a fire under his butt! Stick to it, make that guy finish the job or get rid of him! And didnt Jacquie say to sue him on Judge Judy so she could see it?! Anyway, it needed to be said. This guy gives contractors a bad name and I know they arent all like that as my husband works with plenty of them. Go find out what that guy is up to and ask him why he is hanging out at your house. Guest guest
Grace, So, what is so unreasonable about how you acted, sounds like a perfectly appropriate conversation. Ive never heard of it taking two months to complete a kitchen. What is this guy doing crack or something. Does he have beer for lunch. Thats the problem with contractors they dont really have anyone to answer to, and you get stuck if the job isnt finished. I hope that losing your temper made you feel better instead of worse, good to blow off steam, this schmuck deserved it. He's lucky it wasnt my kitchen. Guest guest
> So, what is so unreasonable about how you acted, sounds like a > perfectly appropriate conversation. OH THANKS, THEA. I just hate blowing my temper. I always end up losing all composure if I reach this point. I literally go from meek little Asian girl, to B*TCH from one moment to the next. Knowing me, if I go back out there to see what he's doing, then I will undoubtedly have to keep up with the lashing.... and then what if he takes a bat to the granite, or wires everything for it to blow up when I try to turn it on? LOLOL!!!! > Ive never heard of it taking two > months to complete a kitchen. 7 months, Thea. 7 months. Guest guest
Good for you Grace!! But honestly if this happens again, call me after the first week. I'm really good at these rants, and enjoy them. It's a nice way to let off steam!! So are they done? Kerri I just freaked out - TOTALLY OT I just totally lost it with my contractor. WARNING: profanities involved. Now, I am not an unreasonable person. In fact, I am one of the most reasonable people I know. Granted, I am not the most patient person in the world, but I have had it as of today. I am way past my threshold, and nothing is 'good' past this point with me. My temper, unfortunately, is no longer under my control. My cabinets arrived on the 22nd of September. SEPTEMBER. What is the date today? November 26th, last time I checked. For 5 weeks now, my contractor is telling me, " Oh the plumber said he would drop by today, " or " Yes, the electrician should be there tomorrow. " Supposedly, this should have been completed within 2 weeks of the cabinets arriving, which makes mid-October the finish time, giving them one EXTRA week. 6 weeks later, today, we are STILL waiting for this f%^*% & #$ plumber, who is standing in line at the courthouse, supposedly, and the electrician, who " hasn't called back yet " . The granite guy was included in this , but heck, he was only one week late, so I'll let that go. So I lost it. I do my best to maintain composure. Even when I am slicing someone in half with words, I do not swear in person, and I do not raise my voice. But today - I just completely lost it. The girls and I took a nap, I woke up first, and came out. My contractor has been here all day today, unlike other days, but still - - I don't hear anyone else. I came out to the kitchen and asked, " Where is the plumber? " He starts giving me some " standing in line, he lives really close to here, he says he will be by later, " followed by that most annoying shrug of his, I went off on him. I told him straight out, in no uncertain terms, that if you do not get the electrician who won't call you back, and the plumber who is standing in line somewhere, out to my house to get this job finished TODAY - - then he won't need to get them out here period. I will take the last installment of what he's due and have any other electrician or plumber to come out here and get the damn motherf#% & #%$ projects done myself tomorrow morning. Not only that, I was screaming, " Do you know what day the cabinets arrived, Bob??? Do you??? " He shrugged, so I scream the date. Then I scream, " Do you know what date today is - do you? " I tell him. " And which part of these last 2 plus months do YOU feel was unavoidable? " He starts talking about the holidays being involved and all. Bad choice. I rip into him with " What HOLIDAY? I didn't spend a holiday during the last 2 months? Did you? OH YES, you might have, considering you had a god #% & #^ kitchen, and I didn't! Why didn't I? OH YES, because THESE SAME PEOPLE DIDN " T SHOW UP! Face it, Bob - you and your guys just do not SHOW UP!!!!! OK, Thanksgiving was ONE DAY - - - - - - how do you account for the 62 days that follow? " I'm still trembling. He said, " Fine, I will just give them a call again. " I replied with, " I don't care if you call them or go pick them up yourself. In fact, as of this moment, I don't give a shit if they come or not. If this is not done by TODAY, I will get my own people to come in and do it tomorrow. YOU NEED NOT SEND YOUR UNRELIABLE PLUMBER OR ELECTRICIAN! FURTHERMORE - YOU YOURSELF NEED NOT COME TOMORROW IF THIS IS NOT DONE TODAY! " End of vent. I walked away, he walked out. I can still hear that he's here, but as usual, I don't have a clue as to what he's doing. Grace Mom to twin girls Sydney and Madison Born 3/28/98 Wife to Shaun 1/11/97 Reply to: gracekeh@...
