Guest guest
We have used .5mg of Kirkman's melatonin plus for my son since he was about that age. ~Sue
Guest guest
Until corn and other things became an issue, Natrol tablets were just fine. We started Leah at 1.5 mg when she was 3.5 and by the time she was 4, upped it to 3mg. TwinLabs makes a tiny capsule that you might consider if he can swallow pills. Natrol makes a liquid as well. -- Rima Regas Mom to Leah, age 8 (AS, DSI and APD) http://www.sensoryintegrationhelp.com > > I would like to use Melatonin for my son who is 3 and 25 pounds. Guest guest
I have used the liquid melatonin. You can order online at: www.drugstore.com I use a 1/4 to 1/2 vial mixed into his juice an hour before he goes to bed when needed. I have known people that use a full vial and it is supposed to be equivalent to a tablet. good luck. Judy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I would like to use Melatonin for my son who is 3 and 25 pounds. What brand and dosage do you suggest? Guest guest
I like the sublingual's over the capsules as they seem to take effect faster. The dosage is not based on weight but on how much melatonin your son's system is missing so it's best to just start small and work up till you find an optimal dosage (if it won't benefit you won't see a difference from higher dosage). My 3yo who's ~35lbs and my 5yo ~45lbs share a 2.5mg sublingual I got at Whole Foods (the brand is escaping me at the moment but it's a white bottle) Anyhow I break the tablet in 1/2 then 1 side in 1/2 again - my olderst gets 3/4 tablet and my youngest gets 1/4 tablet and that seems to be perfect for them... I tried giving more than .5 to my yougest and it didn't seem to make any difference. - near LAX " momtocole@... " wrote: I would like to use Melatonin for my son who is 3 and 25 pounds. Guest guest
> I like the sublingual's over the capsules I like the liquid sublingual best and it's pretty fast acting. I just squirt 1mg under his tongue. You're supposed to keep it under the tongue for 30 seconds, but that is never going to happen. He holds under his tongue for a nanosecond, then swishes it around his mouth for a couple seconds, then swallows. Still seems to work okay. I buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe. Guest guest
We use Kirkman 1 mg sublingual melatonin. My son calls it white candy. He is out w/in 25 minutes. We give it b-4 his bath and he falls asleep w/in 5 minutes of hitting the pillow. If he doesn't take it, it takes him 30 minutes, sometimes longer, to fall asleep. We LOVE melatonin. Plus, I think it helps w/ glutathione production. Peggy > > > > I would like to use Melatonin for my son who is 3 and 25 pounds. What > > brand and dosage do you suggest? Guest guest
I've heard others report that Melatonin will sometimes stop working. Some people schedule breaks from it for a couple of weeks. When they resume they seem to see the benefits again. We have never had this problem in our house. Guest guest
For me and my son, it works great at small doses of only 2 mgs. of a sublingual tablet. Anything higher than that gives both of us horrible dreams at night. Patty Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less. Guest guest
hung over without the headache and nausea for me - just very fatigued but that's only with too high a dose. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the responses. I had no idea it could be so potent for some. I think I'll take a lower dose next time. The lower dose didn't seem to do much, but maybe it was doing what I needed and no more above that.
