Be careful with this one, check out the recent posts on

See how he reacts to it.

Thanks for pointing that out to me Bernie. I went back and read MOST

of the posts on glutamine and have decided that since I'm already

giving Logan the glutathion, I'll hold off on it. He has started

getting some sores (looks like a heat rash, or pimples) on his bumm

and I'm starting to get worried. The rash around his mouth went away

(I started breaking his glutathion up into 3 doses instead of giving

him the 300mg all at once). And we are being very strict about giving

his DMSA every 8 hours (his Dr. said 3 times a day, but it didn't

have to be on equal intervals). Is there such a thing as an honorary

PHD? I think I (AND EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD who doesn't already have a

PHD) should get one!!! MAN I need a vacation. Anyone got some free

tickets to the Caymans? ;)

It's hard to be sure but Mindlinx seemed to be associated with

deterioration for us. Could you post the research indicating that it is

bad for people with ASD?

Hi Sally,I should clarify that it was our research (oops) . So far we have yet to find any references about this in academic journals. All we have, are info from autism websites and feedback from parents. One such feedback in http://www.asdfriendly.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t6324.html

" Within 30 minutes of taking the supplement, his behaviour changed

beyond recognition. His stammer almost disappeared, his speech was

clear, even his skin looked better. And after two months, that hasn't

changed. The effects of serine worked on him MUCH better than Ritalin

(Concerta), which we took him off. We tried adding glutamine, but he

went OTT. " There are others as well. That's why I am interested in hearing from people who benefited from taking glutamine.I got this from the 'Food for the Brain' site: http://www.foodforthebrain.org/content.asp?id_Content=1642

" Digestive enzymes

provide assistance by helping to break down food making the nutrients

more available for absorption and relieving the strain on the digestive

system while it recovers. The amino acid glutamine is an important gut

healing nutrient but may be contraindicated in autism because some

autistics have protein deamination problems leading to production of

ammonia which doesn’t mix well with glutamine. " No further explanation where they got to the conclusion. Another from http://www.autismcoach.com/Glutathione%20Research.htm

" Glutamine: Glutamine enhances gut glutathione production.

(Note from Autism Coach - glutamine can be problematic for some children within the autism spectrum.) " Cheers,Adamhttp://www.imaan.biz

Hi Dilip,

I agree with Mandi. Where there is no academic research and loads of

anecdote (ie personal experience) and the possible outcomes aren't too

awful even if it goes wrong, then I just try and see what happens - I

try to be sceptical so that I don't attribute the next bit of progress

to the pill I have just given. I try to remember that it might have

happened anyway and ditto with any bad stuff. I've usually tried again

later when things have appeared to go wrong, just to be sure (or surer)

that it was the pills rather than a bad night or a bad day in school.

With Vit D and B6 I just tried (both bad as far as I can tell). With

nicotine patches (which seem a good idea) I haven't had the strength of

mind to try because of the problem of nicotine addiction and therefore

making life worse if I decide the patches aren't helping and want to stop.

If you try with Mindlinx please let us know how you get on.

Hi Sally,

We decided to stop BioCare MindLinx Glutamine with Probiotic bacteria

food supplement two days ago. He is much calmer today, more aware of

his surroundings and definitely has more eye contact. Maybe we started

off with too high a dosage (half a tea spoon with his soya milk) but

we don't want to take any chances. We have now ordered VSL3.

In the meantime we have started epsom salt baths in the evening and

giving him fresh coconut water (Zico). Have also been using detox foot

patches at night.

We have ordered some stuff from Mandimart as well, including Vit D3,

zeolite and colloidal silver (for flu). Not really sure of the dosages

for small kids. Any suggestions?

Will be posting updates on our blog as well.

Cheers,

Adam
