If only the herbs are certified organic, but none of the other ingredients are, then the claim appears to be deceptive. The rules regarding this have just recently changed: effective 2006, companies can no longer use the 'certified organic' seal on their products. The FDA has totally reversed its stance on this issue. The implication is that any company can use a few token organic ingredients and make a claim for being organic and not breach any laws! Avalon seems to have an effective alternative as they label the front of their products with a percentage of organic ingredients. As for the list of ingredients this company uses, I would say they are fine... I would say the seem more 'processed' than most. Guest guest
To add to what Gillian has said below. If you are using an organic herb to make an herbal infusion and this infusion is then used to create lotion using 70% water in your recipe; you CAN NOT say that your product is 70% organic. Water is not organic. If you use 5% of organic herbs, 2% essential oils, 10% organic olive oil you can say that your product is 17% organic.... you get the idea dori Gillian Fryer wrote: The rules regarding this have just recently changed: effective 2006, companies can no longer use the 'certified organic' seal on their products.
