I have a 3 year old miniature schnauzer mix (5kg) that had an FHNE approximately

1 year ago with a subsequent revision to remove additional neck last June all at

St. Elsewhere. I have seen the patient for residual neurological deficits

limited to knuckling. The patient gaits on the leg and bears quite good weight

however she has a problem with sores developing on the dorsal aspect of her

phalanges. We have submitted a casting to our prosthetist and he returned quite

a large rigid splint that this little guy just can't handle. I was wondering

what luck people have had with flipper style orthotics and if anyone has someone

they could recommend to make one.

Thanks in advance

I like the Therapaws dorsiflex assist for sciatic injuries, especially in

peroneal involvement where only the hock is effected,

http://www.therapaw.com/dorsi-flexassist-1.aspx . Orthopets.com also makes a

very simple device called a Toe-up that does the same thing however long term

use with this has led to interdigital irritation, the device goes around digits

3 & 4. This is a great alternative though in rehab where neurologic function is

returning.

Hi! You may want to consider a dorsi-flex assist from therapaw. I have a dog with sciatic nerve injury post fho and it has helped her a lot. I love working with therapaw too.... Great company to work with. Seem like they r around $70 or so.Rob tope DVM, ccrtSent from my iPhone
