Guest guest
Brittle diabetes? It is like almost impossible to maintain. You are either up or down and for no apparent reason. Also the least little bit of change in exercise or insulin can make you do a huge swing. Debbie Whats a brittle diabetic if I may ask. Kerry Re: hello Hi Sharon, It is kind of hard to find someone who is type 1. Just about everyone is type 2. I was19 almost 20 when I found out. The reason you have more problems now is because you did not take good care then and also it has an accumulative effect. I believe it is like after 20 years it is the eyes then a couple years later it is the kidneys. Neuropathy kind of depends. But most stuff kind of sets in later. So keep taking good care and don't let the side effects get to you. I am also termed a brittle diabetic. After so long my doc says you get burned out and just to muddle through and you will get to the light at the other end. I burned out and am finding the light. What kind of problems are you having? Debbie Hi Debbie, I am Sharon and I have had Type I for 27 years also. I am having more problems now than when I didn't take such good care of myself. It seems to get harder every day. I am termed a brittle diabetic. I may not converse with the group a lot, but i read everybody's emails that are sent. Welcome and hope we can all help or learn from you. Sincerely, Sharon
Guest guest
If you are a 1 you should 'always' check your bg before driving. It is so easy for a low to occur and then not only yourself but others on the road are in danger. One of my friends died that way. I always have some form of juice or crackers in my car but as a 1 knows a low can hit out of nowhere with no warning. Debbie Hi All I am Type I, diagnosed April 1988 at the age of 43. I don't post, usually someone has already answered any questions, and I am not much for writing letters. However, I also read all the posts, and have learned quite a bit. Especially about it not being a "one size fits all" disease - boy, do I know that ! In fact, what "fit" a few years ago doesn't necessarily fit now.I am very brittle and find just walking around getting dressed can send me into a low, so I have to make sure I'm above normal before I start, and test again if I'm going out, especially driving.a
Guest guest
Let me see if I can remember the numbers. Of all diabetics 90% are type 2. Of the 10% of type 1s I believe it is 1 of 2 % are brittle. Although alot of brittlness in diabetics is from failure to be honest about their diet and exercise programs. Also the Center for Disease Control has stated that type 2 is of epidemic proportions. Especially in young children where it was not seen before. They contribute alot of that to couch potato life styles and biggie junk food. I tried to start a group for 1s only but there just aren't that many out there. And most lists are for or the majority are 2s. DebbieHi a- I too am not much to post, but have learned alot just by reading what others post. You are only the second brittle diabetic I've heard of. Tell me it's not a pain?!!! Can't even be spontaneous because of the bloodsugars. It's not as easy to control the diabetes when you're brittle before it has control over you and your life. Am I right. I just wish there was as much support for Type I's as there seems to be for Type II's. It seems to me that Type I diabetes is the minority of the two. Even though I knew in my heart that there were other "Brits" out there it is nice to hear from one. Keep posting. SHARON R.
Guest guest
One more thing about brittle diabetics... children are often brittle, particularly when they enter puberty and their body is growing and changing at a rapid rate. It can be very hard to regulate their dosages of insulin. Meenie
Guest guest
Hi Joan, Don't feel badly, we've all sounded that way at one time or another Welcome to the list. Meenie Oh rats, I just read my own post and I sounded very sorry for myself and very insensitive to people with Type 2. Please forgive me.joan >^^<
Guest guest
Hi Welcome to the group. Just a brief note here to let you know that many of the members have worked through this group and achieved the status you desire and more, much more .........even to the extent of becomming medication free with the bonus of vastly improved mental & physical health to boot. (effexor free for over 22 months) BTW Eventually I managed to get off all the co administered drugs or bolt-ons given me to deal with the side effects of the Effexor (Venlafaxene) > > > Hi, my name is . Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. Take a look at the files and the archives and you will find a tremendous amount of information about getting off these drugs and restoring your health. This is a group for people who want to get off these drugs completely. As you read the stuff that is posted here, you will find a compelling argument against ever using drugs of this sort. We do not refer to them as medication because medication is something that is intended to heal. These drugs cause only harm. There are a few articles in the Files that are most important for you to read right now. This link will take you to the main page of the Files: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Withdrawal_and_Recovery/files/. From there, click on Nutrition. Then click on 'Poor Nutrition and " Mental Illness " '. When you're done with that one, go back to the Files main page and click on " Members' Stories " . Click on " Kim's story " (that's me). I think you will find some similarities. These two stories may begin to explain to you why you've been on every drug under the sun without improvement. If you decide to begin getting off the drugs, read the Basic Healing Protocol (on the main page of the Files). You can support your body in the withdrawal and Recovery process if you follow all the recommendations in the article. Also read " Eating for Recovery " . A healthy diet and proper supplementation are key to a good recovery. When reducing the drugs, it is important to do it one at a time and S L O W L Y. Cut by no more than 10% of the dose at a time, and give your body a chance to stabilize in between each cut. Throw your calendar out the window--there is no way of knowing how long the process will take. The more slowly and cautiously you reduce your dose, the better your chance of a successful recovery. Feel free to ask questions and share more about yourself. Please note that this is a busy group with many members--sometimes it takes a few days for questions to get answered. If you've gone 48 hours without a response, please post your question(s) again. Blessings, Kim (Co-moderator) <<Hi, my name is . I was diagnosed with bipolar/manic depression at the age of 20 & I am now 24. I have taken medication ever since. You name the med I have taken it or am currently taking it. Guest guest
Lockport. I've been there, too. lol My ex-husband came from the area and his stepmother was from Lockport. If I remember correctly, this is where I stopped at a roadside stand for curly fries and vinegar. First I'd had curly fries with vinegar. They were so good. lol Challis ohmygoodness, I know all those places. Lived in Lockport off and on for about 6 yrs until about a yr ago. Cute pic. lol Challis Ya Buffalo is a big city, but I grew up in Rochester. The falls are pretty at night, they used to shine pretty lights on it. They might still do it, I haven't been there in a few years. I always went to the Canadian side. The falls are very pretty in the winter too with the snow and ice. It's amazing that the water never stops coming! WeavinnRaftin@... wrote: Oh, I had to look it up. Not too far from Buffalo. Guest guest
---Hi Welcome to the group. What you are experiencing is withdrawal effects from the drug. How slowly did you reduce? I think everyone is different so noone can really say how long the effects will last for you, it depends how slowly you came off among lots of other factors. I am sure will know what supplements to advise you to take that will help. You just have to hang on in there I'm afraid. I have been off cipromil now for 9 months, when I first came off I was vomiting, diarrhoea, heart palpitations, odema, flu like symtoms and fevers, you name it i got it......now all that is left is the nerve pain in my hands and feet Hang in there. Guest guest
How long did you take Effexor? What dosage? How long did you taper off of it? If you read in the files under healing protocals it outlines what you can take to help with withdrawal symptoms. I was on Effexor 300 mg for 8 years and it took me 4 months to taper off completely. I took the Supralife Total Toddy 2 ounces a day 300 mg of Magnesium 10 grams of Carlson's liquid fish oils ............mypinkbow wrote: > /Hello,/ > I just joined this group today as I was looking for help and support > on the internet. I, like you was no long depressed but getting off the Effexor was hell................ I resorted to also taking dramamine to help with the motion sickness aka dizziness, nasuea, sweats, flu symptoms......... aka mypinkbow wrote: > /Hello,/ > I just joined this group today as I was looking for help and support > on the internet. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am new to this site and still don't know how to read the posts in some kind of orderly fashion. I read about Bee's diet but can't seem to find I link to it, also the apple cider vinegar. I have been suffering with FM, CFS, Hypothyroid, Premature Menopause, Osteopenia, Disc Herniation, Bursitis and the kitchen sink for a number of years. I gave up smoking and drinking alcohol back in 2003 so food has been my only vice, until 1 week ago. I began eating only natural foods that are gluten, meat and dairy free and I think I am feeling better already. I really never thought diet could be part of the reason I am so ill, but I think I am changing my mind on that. Actually, I didn't wan't to have to give up any foods. I discovered Almond-Milk to replace cow's milk and it's delicious. I haven't found a replacement for cheese, which is my only craving. I eat alot of mixed-greens, nuts and fruits, especially frozen blueberries for snack. My problem is not knowing how to prepare certain foods, like eggplant for instance. There are alot of choices at Whole Foods, but it's very expensive and overwhelming to check all the labels. I would really like to take a look at the diet you have been talking about (Bee's) and try the apple cider. Can someone give me that info? Thank you for your help, Sincerely, a
