Guest guest
Thank you! I am crying from happyness. I am 14 and has had this for 10 years. It is so bad I question if I will make it through each day. I would be happier if the subject on school and misophonia would be discussed. I am about to drop out ASAP. I wish for others to be aware of the impact this has on the lives of the sufferers. I have it set to record. I will for sure watch it. Thank you so much again!!!!!! > > Hello, everyone, this Thursday you will see misophonia featured on the Today Show, with a taped session of yours truly, so tune in and enjoy, it is OUR HOUR. > > Welcome to all the new people. > > Dr. Marsha , Audiologist >

Guest guest
I made it through high school and ended up Making it through college (by having my own room). This was before ipods and noise machines. I am wondering if you could take this article to your school counselor and ask for some ideas on coping? As a grown up who works at home and has a lot of control over my environment now...you will make it and it will be OK. Just knowing I am not crazy or defective is a lovely thing. Thank you! Guest guest
I have a 504 Plan saying that I can wear my earplugs(more), but it doesn't help when the teacher is talking and I hear a trigger sound. Maybe I could bring the article to my teachers and have them talk to my classmates. One of my teachers talked to the class last year, but they forgote or something. Most people forget, even the people I am closest to. > > I made it through high school and ended up Making it through college (by having my own room). This was before ipods and noise machines. Guest guest
na, It would be great to find a way to not be bothered by these sounds... But until that day, I wish this disorder could/would be considered a handicap so schools, workplaces, etc. would be required to offer noise-free zones and/or special headsets. However...I just had a thought...I did a quick google search for online high schools, and found this site: http://www.schools.utah.gov/ehs/ ...I think you're in Utah, right? If you and your family feel this might be an option, then do a more in-depth search for these types of schools until you find one that feels right. Maybe you could finish high school from home, or from a quiet library with headphones. I believe this program would work with your current school? You'll need to look closer at how it works. Good luck. Kathy > > I made it through high school and ended up Making it through college (by having my own room). This was before ipods and noise machines. Guest guest
Keep trying and plugging away at it. I graduated 35 years ago and people just thought I was weird. Now that I am older i am eccentric. Maybe homeschooling or the on line high school that was posted could be an option. My family thought I was a brat, I thought I was nuts. You know better and are armed with some great information. Asking if you can use a tape recorder might help also in case you need to tune out during a lecture. Guest guest
Don't drop out of school. There are schools that do allow you to do private study. Talk to a counselor about doing a home-based study. Kids who are sick for a prolonged period do this. A teacher will bring them their class/homework after school and help them out with it. Or you could try transferring to a school that will allow you to do it yourself. I finished up high school here: http://www.clonlara.org/highschool (they're international, and your diploma is just as vaild) If it were not for that school, I'd have never graduated. > > > > Hello, everyone, this Thursday you will see misophonia featured on the Today Show, with a taped session of yours truly, so tune in and enjoy, it is OUR HOUR. > > > > Welcome to all the new people. > > > > Dr. Marsha , Audiologist > > >
Guest guest
In this day and age, with all of the accomodations being made for those with physical and mental challenges, I would think that, with the aid of articles in the NYT and others, that you will have a good case to present to the powers that be at a public school to make life tolerable for you at school. Nothing like this 50+ years ago when I was in school. Get a note from Dr. or somebody reputable along with all that you can print out on the subject now available online and put up a stink. Beats the alternative! Guest guest
I found a list of online high schools in Arizona: http://www.onlinehighschool.org/Free_Online_High_Schools.html#AZ See if any of them will work with your current school so you don't have to wait to be home-schooled. At this point, you'll need to take the time to research your options. That way, your Mom will see how serious you are — plus you'll be better informed about your options. Be proactive about finding a solution. After all, we only feel helpless when we don't realize we have choices. You do have choices. Good luck na. Guest guest
I have seen some of them. The only problem my has is getting help when I need it. My mom works and my dad doesn't know the stuff because he is a high school drop out. I know there is options, but I need a option that will work. I feel like there is hope for a cure with awareness on the Today Show. > > > > > > > > > > Hello, everyone, this Thursday you will see misophonia featured on the Today Show, with a taped session of yours truly, so tune in and enjoy, it is OUR HOUR. > > > > > > > > > > Welcome to all the new people. > > > > > > > > > > Dr. Marsha , Audiologist > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
