Hi ,

  Did Dr ES mention any greens that were better than others?  My digestion is very poor so in order for me to have any leafy green I hvae to steam them so they are soft (its more the actual breakdown of the food on a cellular level that helps as opposed to breaking down the actual leaf).  I tried some green smoothies before and got pretty bloated...but maybe juicing would work better for me.

 

Any ways, Did he reccommend certain greens over others, I'd think some would have better properties?

I heard Dr. ES speak a week ago and she gave an easy, tolerable way to do green juice which apparently really pulls the toxins.  This is one for those who really don't care too much for heavy green juice - or are trying to get their kids to drink it - and even for those who don't have a juicer.

3 cups of distilled water (must be distilled for pulling power)           Put this in your blender, then add 1 cup of anything green: celery, lettuce, cucumber, herbs.           (Just add until the water level rises to the 4 cup mark on blender carafe)

Pulse for a few seconds - NOT grinding finely.Strain, drink half in the mid morning, half in mid afternoon (on empty stomach)I added 1/2 lemon (for flavor)Of course, the greens must be organic.

I am getting my kids to drink this.

I would agree Whitney, that some would have different properties - for instance, we know cilantro is a good chelator.She was addressing an Autism audience, and we know these kids are really toxic.  So, she was saying that as a general gentle, but powerful, detox - do the drink - any greens. I think it is the synergy of distilled water - which will pull - and a little bit of greens.

The effort and expense involved in using my juicers - always stops me (especially for my kids - who say 'yuck').  But pouring 3 cups of (cold) distilled water in the blender, then grabbing a handful of mixed veggies and throwing them in easy, 10-15 seconds of blending, then strain. Easy.  And very mild. I think I might add 1/4 of an organic apple just for flavor for the kids.

I know many here use juicers - lots of benefits.  And many use a Vitamix type blender and drink the pulp and all. Not for me, or my kids (yet).I have digestive issues too - and so far, so good.  It's so light.

Today, I swallowed 20 chlorella tablets 30 minutes before my green drink. I don't know if that will help more? And I added 1/4 teaspoon of MSM to the green  drink because MSM makes your cells so much more permeable.  I also take 1 teaspoon of MSM powder in the morning with my supps.

Ahhh straining it to get the pulp out...now why didnt that occur to me! Sounds like it might be the ticket! Thanks!

Hi ,

The lemon you added does more than just flavor this, it also raises your pH and

detoxes your liver... So not only yummy, but just plain good for you too!

Hi Whitney,

Several years ago while having several tests done at Mayo Clinic, they

discovered I have low stomach acid.. They told me not much can be done about

this... Good thing I don't listen to these docs...

Well I opened up a discussion about this on both of my support group and soon

found many of my fellow group members also have low stomach acid... Well as it

turns out, many Lymies are also hypothyroid, apparently this causes low stomach

acid. So many of us have the same problem, low stomach acid... And thus it is no

coincidence many have digestive problems...

There are some things you can do to increase stomach acid and thus increase

digestion of food... First is taking 1 or 2 Tbls of organic apple cider vinegar

like Braggs, and 1 Tbls of raw honey, unheated and unfiltered, mixed in 4 oz of

water and sip it right down, do this 1/2 hr before each meal... Another thing

you can do is take Betaine HCl with the last bite of each meal, start with 650

mg (1 capsule) and you can add more if necessary..... Taking one or two

different probiotics, either 1 hr before, or 2 hrs after each meal... This

really should be done with either the ACV or the Betaine HCl... And do this 2 -

3 times daily... This adds good bacteria into your gut.... And last, take a

digestive enzyme with each meal...

Thanks for mentioning this, Jim! I also have low stomach acid and have had it for years even before getting Lyme disease. Low stomach acid makes Candida worse--stomach acid helps to keep Candida under control.

I have been using Betaine HCl capsules during and after meals to help with my digestion, but since increasing my thyroid hormone (slow-release T3) dosage recently, I don't have to use as much any more. If drinking apple cider vinegar, watch out for your teeth--make sure it's dilute enough. My teeth used to get sensitive from it.

Something else that increases stomach acid is inositol hexaniacinate. There's an article in the Townsend Letter about this (http://www.townsendletter.com/FebMar_2003/inositol0203.htm). It was doing great things for my stomach acid production, but it was making me feel depressed (maybe too much histamine? I get weird reactions to B-vitamins) so I am taking a break from it.

Thanks for sharing this recipe for easy green drinks. I've heard from many sources that it's especially good to get raw vegetables in the spring. Something about detoxing, spring detox, Chinese medicine, etc. I've been craving raw vegetables as the weather warms up, so I bet there is something to that.

I have been drinking green juice for about a year now. I have really grown to

love the taste after a couple of months of choking it down.

I was mixing in kale and spinich but stopped because they interfere with thyroid

production. I would be careful with cilantro as well as chelating heavy metals

can be taxing on the body.

It is also extremely important to use the right kind of juicer so that you don't

cook the juice while juicing.

I have also read that you are better off drinking it right away because when you

store it starts to lost the enzymes after about 20 minutes.

I think the juicing is really beneficial but like with anything else you have to

taylor the juices just for your health needs.

HI Whitney,

The Betaine HCl actually provides the most new stomach acid... I actually break

open

the capsule and mix the powder in 2 oz of water, drink with a straw positioned

as

far back in my mouth as possible... This keeps the acid off my teeth, yet since

it

is mixed right in the water, it goes to work immediately. I have worked up to 3

capsules (1950 mg) in 2 - 3 oz of water, this gives me maximum acid in my

stomach...

You will know when you reached your limit when you experience acid reflux, then

cut back one capsule.

There is actually a killing protocol that uses 18 - 25 capsules of HCl with each

meal for

3 weeks, so high doses of HCl can be taken... However for just adding more

stomach

acid, I find 1 - 3 capsules works well after each meal..

So, I guess we can add you as another Lymie with hypothyroid... Really, many of

us

have this problem and thus low stomach acid and poorer digestion..

And if you are using keifer and homemade yogurt, you are doing better than me...

Hi JimI just ate lunch and took enzymes and one (650mg) HCI.  Now my stomach is burning.  This happens every time, so I assume I have enough stomach acid.  I rarely get heartburn, but sure do with the HCI.  What do you think?

Hi ,

Most of us Lymies with low stomach acid also are

hypothyroid and this causes low stomach acid...

I never gave much thought to low stomach acid until I knew I had it... I

researched and found when we

have low stomach acid, we lose our first defense against killing bacteria and

Candida in our

stomach... When we don't kill them off there, they then can enter the rest of

our gut causing

us much upset and distress.. So it becomes very important to increase stomach

acid not just

for digesting food (mostly protein), but also to kill of any new bacteria that

has entered our

body.

If you can get your thyroid hormones in order, this is good for your health..

Some of us

struggle to get these hormones correct, some meds work on some folks, not on

others..

I always us a straw when drinking any acids, I push the straw as far back in my

mouth as I

can, this prevents any teeth problems.. I typically use 1 Tbls of apple cider

vinegar (organic) and

same for raw honey, unfiltered and unheated in 4 oz of distilled water. This

works well...

Thanks for telling me about inositol hexaniacinate. I didn't know about this

also

increasing stomach acid..

A few successful treatments for Candida are, Lugol's iodine 5%, cream of tartar

and extra

virgin organic coconut oil.

Iodine appears to be the best remedy to eliminate systemic yeast infections. If

you have reason to believe that other measures have not eliminated all Candida

in the blood or internal tissues, take a course of Lugol's solution. That is how

Dr Truss originally cured his patients.

Lugol's solution is an internal iodine solution designed to eliminate Candida

and possibly viruses and other microbes from the bloodstream. Obtain 100ml of

Lugol's solution, also labelled Aqueous Iodine Oral Solution B.P., from a

chemist. It should contain 10% of total iodine. In the US you may also buy

iodine in tablet form as Iodoral equivalent to 2 drops of Lugol's solution per

tablet. Take a test drop in liquid other then just water to make it taste less

strong. If this does not cause a reaction, continue to take 4 x 6 drops daily in

liquid or mixed with food, but not directly together with vitamins A, C, E,

grape seed extract or cysteine.

Continue for 3 weeks, but interrupt if you develop a serious reaction. If

necessary, repeat the course after several months. In the meantime continue

taking several drops of Lugol's solution daily mixed with food or drink. If

Lugol's solution is not available you may try a saturated solution of potassium

iodide (SSKI) taken in similar amounts.<<<<

The medium-chain saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are potent antimicrobial

agents, effective against fungi, viruses and many bacteria. The most effective

fatty acids are caprylic acid (with 8 carbon atoms), capric acid (10 carbon

atoms) and lauric acid (12 carbon). They appear to work by causing microbial

cell walls to disintegrate.

Coconut oil appears to be effective within days. With Candida take initially 4

tablespoons of coconut oil spread out during the day, and after improvement you

may reduce this to 2 tablespoons for several more weeks. This seems to be

effective against systemic as well as localised infestations, including those of

the genitals. However, it is advisable to apply coconut oil topically as well.

The best commercial product is cold-pressed or virgin coconut oil. However, this

has been heat-stabilised to destroy lipase. Therefore, my preference is

self-made raw coconut cream or milk: press coconut pieces through a low-speed

juicer, or alternatively blend with water, strain and refrigerate.

For topical applications and for those with fat malabsorption the lipase-rich

coconut milk can be expected to be much more effective than heated coconut oil

with only a very low concentration of free fatty acids. Alternatively, you may

use lipase supplements with coconut oil.<<<

(candida infections), Cream of Tartar powder is a waste product of fermenting

Hi Jim - I thought this was an excellent post on the remedy for low stomach acid

and passed it on to a group of friends, some of which could clearly benefit. The

easy greens recipe by also looks good and I am going to build this into my

diet.
