Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am new here and by pure fate I happened to be watching the Today show this morning and saw the piece. I am blown away that there is a name for it. For a long time I googled sensitivity to sound and whatever but never came up with misophonia. My triggers are pouring (coffee, juice, milk, milk into a bowl of cereal), slurping, loud eating/crunching. Even the clanking of a spoon in a glass sets me off. I get it's a genetic thing but I wonder, for you all, who in your family has it? Your parents, or someone further down the line? I can't think of my parents having this. Thanks and I am so happy to finally have a name for this.
Guest guest
Hi and welcome! It's not a definite that it is genetic, but many of us here do have family members with it. My sister has it, her daughter has it, and my mother has it to some degree. I am the worst of us. The strange thing is, none of us knew we all had it until I 'spilled the beans' at a luncheon I was on with them a couple years ago. I told them about 'my problem' and that is when they all were shocked to say they experienced it also. If other members of the family don't have misophonia, often times they have other anxiety type disorders, ocd, etc... My family has those as well... we are a silly bunch > > Hi everyone, I am new here and by pure fate I happened to be watching the Today show this morning and saw the piece.
