What about another walk across the U.S. ?

I'm thinking about walking across the U.S. I'm looking into my options

such as route and how much $$$ I'd need to get on the road and be safe

while I'm out there. My biggest concern is I had a total knee

replacement 4 1/2 years ago, however I believe if I took it easy it

will hold up. The problem is I don't know if I would be able to keep

away from the temptation to run as I used to be a runner. I've ask my

knee surgeon about me being able to run again he cringed at the

thought. Does Steve V. check out this site very often? I wouldn't mind

getting his advice, maybe if he's up to it we could do it

together? " fatguyswalking " if not Steve is there anyone else out there

that might want to go on a adventure? I bet it would be a lot safer

with two people doing this then one? If I can't find someone I'm going

to go alone.

If anyone has any thoughts about my idea please let me know I

welcome both pro & con.

Thanks and have a great day. Mark in MN

P.S.

I sent a reply to you via email through the group system. Be sure to check

your 'spam' bin if you don't see it.

I sent links to Steve's websites and a suggestion to read Steve's journal.

It's a lot safer out there than you would think. Or the news services would have

you think. The knee is a concern but the exercise will help build it up if you

are careful and don't strain yourself.

As far as money is concerned that is a hard one to answer because it really

depends on how you plan on doing the trip. Camping is cheaper but not practical

for extended travel. You need to gauge who caveman you really want to go. Figure

out the amount of time you will be on the road and plan accordingly. I rely

heavily on the idea that " it " will be there just when you need it. So, I would

start first and let the rest of the stuff just happen.

Good luck

Hi Steve, Hey is there any chance we could talk on the phone? I would love to

talk to you about what I am going to do. My email address is

freda357@....

I have already lost over 100 pounds so that helps with my knee replacement and I

am getting some injections in my other knee as it has seen better days haha.

Yeah it would be great to talk to you as I have a bunch of questions that only a

guy that you would know the answers. My wifes first thoughts were " are out of

your mind " I figure on staying in motels (cheap ones) I'm going to set aside

some money in a bank account and just use debt cards. I'd be a sitting duck with

cash. I'd like to go to NYC then down to Washington D.C. My goal is to try and

draw attention to obesity in the U.S. and disabilities, the disabilities I have

are of corse bad knees (from being overweight) living with chronic pain, I also

had back surgery 10/01/08 and I also broke my neck when I was 20. If at all

possible I'd like to talk to you : ) Take care and thanks for your post.

Ross is my middle name, I go by my first name Mark.

Thanks again, Mark
