Been in web development since '97, I think it looks good. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Friday, August 19, 2011 10:45 PMSubject: upgrades to the public website

Hi all,I have made some changes to the public website to try and make it more professional and streamlined. I thought it looked messy before.www.soundsensitivity.info What do you think of the changes? all feedback welcome. If you are a member of the forum you can cast your vote on a forum as well. http://soundsensitivity.info/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=27 & t=194 I am still fixing the digests. I have removed some code , tweaked some other bits of the website and now have hopes that you should only get one digest per send out from the board. Thanks for holding tight. There are new posts on the forum as well so if you have the time why not check it out. I am also building a store on the main website to try and make things easier for people with Misophonia to purchase items that may help. Lastly, we are about finished on the Spanish section of the website!!! I will let everyone know when that is live as well. You may notice that the weblink is slightly different when you load up the page. www.soundsensitivity.info/english This lay out will be how we split the website up into different lanuages and soon on the front page (before english) you will be able to choose your flag to represent your lanuage. Some of you may remember my post a while ago about the publicity project, I beleive that this ties into that post and hopefully soon can start to be a hub of information for people who wish to use it. I would like to thank everyone who has helped out over the last few months and more recently with the posts on the Forum to fill out the content. It has meant a huge amount.Looking forward to pushing this condition into the public light (in the right way) and hopefully moving forwards in the search for a cure. I hope that building this website it can strengthen the otherwebsites that are out there and really help put some credibility to this condition, websites such as this support group, the uk misophonia support page and in time support the global misophonia support page that is linked of the uk site. Thanks

Hi

Looks much better, clear and easier to read, good colour contrast.

Perhaps one thing to consider it seems quite bleak.

I know at times I feel quite bleak but not all the time. I wonder if it might be worth accentuating the positives, such as they are, in some positive imagery too.

Just a thought.

best wishes Dianne

I always felt that this condition was a very dark and lonely condition hence the bleak almost sad and painful pictures, when I was originally designing the site I didn’t know how else to describe it. I would like to see the picture of the screaming girl removed. I refer friends and family to the website, and they get freaked out when they see it. It sends the wrong message. I avoid viewing the main page as much as I can because the image remind me of how excruciating it is when I'm in a room full of people eating. Hodges

Perhaps some photos of people smiling and in social setting together, with someone sat with back to wall as a good way of coping in restaurants, ( that just worked for me today.), another could be of someone wearing head phones at work smiling, or what about some one wearing white noise generators, or enjoying music or nature eg a noisy concert or the sea or trees as these are things some of us can look forward to.

Only thoughts. best wishes

I second what everyone's saying about making the website less depressing. It

looks beautiful right now, but very morbid: some color (or even humor) would

definitely help.

Also, I think that it's great you're trying to make the page multi-lingual. If

you need someone to translate into Russian (and maybe French as well), I'd be

happy to do it. Maybe other people in this group who are fluent in foreign

languages can volunteer to do pages in other languages?

I love it. I appreciate the sensitive nature of the art chosen. It's not

bleak: it's real and it's emotive. I think no one would understand smiling

people wearing headphones. For those who have suggestions, perhaps you could

provide the images you'd like to see since the layout and content are probably

more pressing for the developer right now. Sorry to be so blunt in my words but

I'm really pressed for time right now and cannot soften this up. Please take

this the way I mean it :^)

I have to agree.  If this site will be used to present information to the public, I’m concerned that some won’t take this seriously if they see smiling faces, i.e. “they look happy to me” or “they don’t look like they’re sufferring to me”, or “it must not be that bad”.  That’s not to say that sufferers couldn’t use some more positive and uplifting photos, but perhaps those could be posted elsewhere?  Just my 2 cents . . . That makes sense.  My thinking is just to look “real” and to make sure the public takes this seriously, but I agree we don’t want to give the impression of being “crazy” or “mentally disturbed”. From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ] On Behalf Of HodgesSent: Monday, August 22, 2011 12:18 PMTo: Soundsensitivity Subject: Re: Re: upgrades to the public website People I've referred to the website in the past have been very disturbed by the picture of the screaming girl. One family member told me it made everyone with 4S/Misophonia look like they were mentally disturbed. Since this is a perception that we have to fight off all the time, I don't think we should use images that make us look crazy. I just feel that the picture could be toned down a bit. Using such intense imagery may help get the message across but it's a total turn-off to those who don't know what the condition is, and even more so especially to some of us who don't want to be reminded of how excruciating this condition can be. Just my 2 cents . . . I don't see that picture--which page is it on?The pictures all look fine to me.. but I don't seem to be seeing the same thing others are seeing.. I don't see any disturbing picture of a girl screaming.

People I've referred to the website in the past have been very disturbed by the picture of the screaming girl. One family member told me it made everyone with 4S/Misophonia look like they were mentally disturbed. Since this is a perception that we have to fight off all the time, I don't think we should use images that make us look crazy.

I think the screaming girl picture could definitely be used to educate the public, but perhaps should be only featured on a page (if there is one) that talks about what it's like to have the condition. Also, adding a caption to the image with something like like " Trigger sounds can cause misophonia sufferers extreme discomfort and even rage. "

Hodges

That makes sense.  My thinking is just to look “real” and to make sure the public takes this seriously, but I agree we don’t want to give the impression of being “crazy” or “mentally disturbed”.

Wow. That's an.... interesting picture.I don't see that anywhere.. the main page has pictures on it, but when I click on the other pages " about " " blog " " contact us " etc... there are no pictures showing on my end. But it does say " Photo by _____ " so I assume that pictures are supposed to be there... but they don't show up for me.

The .org website where that picture is from I have no ability to make changes.

Please comment on WWW.soundsensitivity.info

I agree that it's a bit overly dramatic and bleak. I absolutely agree that it is

not a fun condition to have at all and can be isolating, and that the website

needs to be serious. However, I also think that being so dramatic might actually

lead to it being taken less seriously.

Perhaps using something that other people can relate to - such as a picture of

nails scraping down a blackboard - could be useful? There is a picture like that

on this website:

http://www.sodahead.com/fun/what-sound-makes-you-cringe/question-1688029/

Or also photos sort of more like this one:

http://bestuff.com/images/images_of_stuff/210x600/nails-on-the-blackboard-35088.\

jpg?1173366152

I just feel that they more get the point across without being so bleak.

Thanks for the effort on this though - this website has been very helpful for

me!

I agree fully with Chris

Re: upgrades to the public website

I love it. I appreciate the sensitive nature of the art chosen. It's not bleak:

it's real and it's emotive. I think no one would understand smiling people

wearing headphones. For those who have suggestions, perhaps you could provide

the images you'd like to see since the layout and content are probably more

pressing for the developer r

I took a little time to find some images that might work, or at least head in the right direction. These are comp images from fotolia.com. Both images and text would need to be colorized, stylized, etc. If I had more time, I'd offer to help. Unfortunately it's not the case. Good luck to everyone.http://yubeyu.com/4S/4s-images.jpgIf you like them, the image numbers are:fotolia_14819416fotolia_16021015fotolia_18219197fotolia_26847266fotolia_28530317Kathy> > >> > > Been in web development since '97, I think it looks good.> > >> > >> > >> > > ________________________________> > > From: McKenna richard.mckenna@> > > To: Soundsensitivity > > > Sent: Friday, August 19, 2011 10:45 PM> > > Subject: upgrades to the public website> > >> > >> > > Â> > > Hi all,> > > I have made some changes to the public website to try and make it more> > professional and streamlined. Does anyone have any feedback about my image suggestions for the

soundsensitivity.info site? It's a little disheartening to take the time to help

and then get no feedback.

If nobody likes them, it's OK. I guess I am looking for acknowledgement that

someone saw them.

The link to the images in my first email didn't work, and the second email with

a working link was deleted by the moderator. I posted a third time with no

response. So here's the link again.

Kat, I think your suggestions are great! Very relevant but not inflammatory. Love them!

I saw them and they looked fine to me, but I also see nothing wrong with the current ones.... so I didn't say anything.

I agree – and I especially like the one where she’s holding her hand to her forehead.  I do also like the original images, but these might be better for more people.  Thank you for spending the time to find and provide these!
