To all, in my case I believe it to be in my family genes.

While all don,t have bronch, all my children (4) and my only sisters son have COPD.

I have never smoked.

My dad only smoked a packet a week and that was in his 20,s.

My own kids smoke one has managed to give it up in last months .

Terrified of her illness.

Smells, smoke, dust , stress all quite acutely effect all of my family too.

However myself, my dad, mum aunts and uncles worked all their lives, ran businesses, had largish families etc.

I do think the things we eat, breath etc in this todays world are all contributing factors to how well people manage and how much more the illness is becoming prevalent.

Climate change, air conditioning, we also all travel more etc.

In the old days it was corner stores, no crowds, not a lot of people touching /handling things either.

Doctors came to the home, no sitting in filled surgeries.

Kids were kept home if unwell etc.

Lots more home grown foods, prepared at home too etc.

I do really think all these things add to the problem to the extent it creates more new things to contend with too.

Must add a comment here to agree that politics shouldn,t be brought into the group.

There are many people of all walks of life from across the globe, all wonderful people.

There are many chat groups, opinion polls etc where to have your say on politics etc.

Good Morning EileenYou will be happy to know that the USA has closed their doors to refugees and Canada is getting them all now! I just read in our local paper that our community a city of over 450,000.00 is in debt and was awaiting some money from our federal gov't because all the refugees crossing at the Niagara border have been bused into our city to be on our welfare system consequently our property taxes will be increased and they are talking about a surtax of 1% (that would be to feed, cloth, and house these families). With refugees these are the people that our countries just accept no matter what they have health wise or criminally....at least with the landed immigrants they do check out their health but they don't quarantine them until they get the results. I guess the USA and Canada divied up these people before now the USA has said NO MORE! I'm really nervous of reading these articles it didn't say what countries these people are coming from but I can just imagine. I was Xmas shopping yesterday the whole day and other than the store clerks I would say maybe I heard 20 people speaking English the rest were all speaking whatever their language is and loudly too....Our countries are becoming 3rd world countries, and our Dr's are not prepared for this plus our bodies can not handle these new bacteria's, etc.....Shame on our Gov't's for not being better prepared and preparing us for what was coming so we could protect ourselves! We do have to be careful at the office in my main office there are about 100 agents, I work out of a branch office with about 40 agents. The gal that runs our marketing department has had pneumonia off and on for the last 10 years. She currently has it and was only off work for a couple of days and told me her son has bronchitis (a severe case) I told her she needs to get a Cat Scan (I didn't share with her my diagnosis) but I think she too has it. There is our Xmas dinner party this Friday and I've declined (because of all the office sicknesses esp. her's) People need to be respectful and stay home when they are sick even esp. with a cold as the sneezing sends all the germs airborne. I don't want to be paranoid but I also no how I got this and it came from a sick client so now I try to avoid what I can when I can.We need to protect our HealthHave a great Day! Collapsed LungHi All,I had a non-productive cough for about a week, it got worse and I was givenprednisone and Levaquin. A few days later on a Friday, Dr. ordered a chestx-ray which showed walking pneumonia. Since I was on medication, he saidthat if I got worse over the weekend I was to go to emergency. My cough didget worse and the phlegm in the center of my chest would not come up. I washaving difficulty breathing (which never happened before) and decided it wastime to go to the emergency room. I was x-rayed and diagnosed with acollapsed left lung in addition to the pneumonia which was quite a shock.I needed a chest tube inserted and I was so frightened of the procedure, however it wasn't as painful as I thought, but coughing with this tube inyour body is no picnic. Lots of morphine helped me through this ordeal. My sputum was cultured and they found that I have another aspergillusinfection. My infectious disease Dr. gave me a script for V-Fend which hasworked very well for me in the past. I had to wait 3 days for my insurancecompany to pre-authorize this medication which costs $2,326.00 for onemonth's supply (without insurance), before I was able to get it into mysystem. Apparently the surgeon feels that the incessant coughing produced a smallhole in the lung, coupled with the pneumonia and fluid, it collapsed. Hestated that if I get one of those horrible coughing spells, I need to takemy codeine cough medicine to avoid any future problems. I didn't realizethat heavy coughing spells could cause this to happen. This is a totally new experience for me and wonder if anyone in the grouphas had a similar experience to share? I also understand that after acollapsed lung, one can not fly for 6 weeks.Have a happy healthy Thanksgiving everyone,Eileen-FL_____ Never miss a thing. I have been recently diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis. I alsohave beentold I have "non impressive" bronch.I have been sick on and off for over 5 years - mostly on - I have had tonsof tests and my lung function shows I'm fine - but I continue to have thesame issue over and over again. About a year ago I was treated forMycobacterium Gordone - a 6 month treatment of 3 very strong antibiotics. The pulmonologist that put me on the drugs wanted me on for 12 months -another pulmonologist took me off them after 6 months. I was fine for about8 months and I'm back in an old pattern - no one is really sure I had tnemycobacterium - but I was presenting the same "symptoms" so for lack of anyother thoughts - they put me on the antibiotics. So far I have not found a Dr. that knows how to treat me and what I have. Ihave a cousin who is a pulmonologist (in another state) and he suggestedrotating antibiotics - he said many Dr's don't understand Chronic Bronchits- but it has been very hard to find a Dr. that will put me on these"rotating antibiotics". My concern is that while we are trying to 'figureout" what is going on with me - by bronch may be getting worse.I'm 46 - have always had an active life and this is really getting me down.I'd love to hear about any results - good and bad - from rotatingantibiotics and how to deal with this chronic bronchitis...Thanks so much. I appreciate what I have learned on this list.
