Guest guest
Ya, haven't you seen that King of the Hill where Bobby is being groomed as a dandy? Haha, my favorite part is him saying in a dandy drawl, " This flowah is a-wiltin'. " Hahaha, > You shittin' me? > This is Macon, Ga. where your " look good " is THE most important thing going. > Southern 'gentleman and ladies' would not go to the park and get dirty with > the kids. Guest guest
That is such a wonderful story!! Way to go Ron! Sounds like you gave all those kids a great afternoon. Kerri Castles in the park The clutch pedal of my truck breaks in the middle of the road today...while talking to Terry on the cell. I managed, a la Steve McQueen, to down shift to the house. I figured it was God's way of telling me to take the rest of the weekend off. After I solved the problem and realizing I wouldn't be able to fix it until Monday, I decided to take the kids to the park. Alec was off to Nanny's, so Sam, Abbie and me left Terry alone at the house and off we went to the park. Now, I'm constantly down on Macon, but, I must say, this particular park has slowy but surely been overhauled. Much to my surprise today, there was a huge sand pit built for the kids. After the routine of slides, swings and monkey bars, Sam and Abbie quickly headed over to the sand pit. Ahhhhhhhh!!!! My favorite thing to do as a kid...sandcastles!!!!! We quickly started piling sand to make a castle. Now, I am not your social butterfly. I tend to stay to myself for the most part. What I noticed is our sandcastle drew a crowd of kids. Special needs kids. Go figure!!!!! There was Sam. who whispers in a group, Abbie in her Minnie Mouse voice, the deaf kid Ross who spoke very loud, his brother who was very, very busy and spoke loud too, (I figure from talking with Ross) and Allie a slightly downs girl who immediately hooked up with Abbie. A crowd of nervous parents circled around the sand pit, I gathered wondering what this short, fat guy in paint stained blue jeans and a t-shirt was going to do with their kids. We started building our castle. Me: " okay everybody, who wants to build a castle? Raise your hand. " Six hands raise. Sam always raises both hands. Me: " So everybody pile sand high and pack it down. " Sam (whispering) " Sams piles sands with daddy. " Abbie (in her sqeaky voice) pile high Allie...you help too. " As Abbie puts sand in Allie's hand and helps her put it in the pile. Ross... " I HELP TOO " ...right in my ear. Ross' brother.... " WAIT FOR ME!!!!!!! " Directly in my other ear. Abbie decided to take Allie to find some leaves. When she came back a minute later Abbie and Allie put leaves on top of our sand pile.... " Look daddy, we made flags, " said Abbie obviously proud of herself as she stepped back sucking 2 fingers and probing for her belly button. Sam: " Sams wants door daddy. " Me: " A square door? A rectangle door? " Sam: " Square door daddy. " I cut out a square door with my finger. Then decide to carve one out deep. Sam was deeply impressed with me. (Daddy truly is king sometimes). Not to be out done. Ross: " I MAKE A POOL. " Still in my ear. His brother agrees... " YEAHHHHHHHH " in my other ear. They make a moat around the castle. Abbie and Allie started on their own castle. We made castles for a good hour before everyone got sick of it. We left for ice cream...Abbie choosing " pink " and Sam choosing " red. " I had the pistachio, which Sam realized is what he wanted. He ate a good portion of that too. When we got home, the babysitter came and Terry and I used the free passes from the failed movie adventure a couple of weeks ago to see " Training Day " . It was a great day to be a dad. Ron
