Hi

I appreciate your thoughtful reply.

My sensitive TSH is 2.07 with a normal range being 0.35 - 5.00 . That is the only thyroid test she ordered when I asked her to test my thyroid because I had a really low temperature. I do also have moderately high cholesterol and am 20 pounds overweight. That weight has been put on in the past year.

I began to suspect something was wrong when I started to gain weight despite eating the same and my skin started to get much drier and I felt more tired. I went through a period of very high stress from May of 2002 until March of 2003 during which time these symptoms got worse plus some depressive episodes. In May of this year, I started to take my temperature two or three times a day as I suspected I might have some thyroid problem, and it never got to even 98 orally during the day.

My lab work was done on May 21/03 and shortly after my physician left her practice. I have finally and gratefully found another physician. There are 20,000 people approximately here in London unable to find a family physician. This new physician will not work with the syndrome protocol. I gave him all the information and whether he looked at it or not I don't know. He just said to see a naturopath if I wanted that kind of treatment.

I did have my mercury amalgams removed in 1996 and have done a DMSA protocol for the mercury. I have used a zapper for parasites and done many of Hulda liver cleanses. I have been in excellent health until this problem. I am 65 years of age and take no pharmaceuticals and am in otherwise good health. I have not had even a cold in 7 years until May of this year when I was very ill with bronchitis and I feel that I have really not recovered my energy.

I was hoping someone on the list had used the program from the New Zealand website and would comment on their experience. I think it has value for someone who is choosing to basically treat themselves. Has anyone used the book "Your Guide to Metabolic Health".

I appreciate your consideration

Sincerely

Kallie

Question and suggestions for new member

I am just new to this list. Has anyone used the program from

http://www.thyroidglanddisorders.com/about-us.html I have an average temperature of 97.5 F orally with normal thyroid blood tests, fatigue, and other symptoms. I purchased the books on 's Syndrome from www.wilsonssyndrome.com but my physician will not support me in this method. I now choose to self-treat so am looking at this program from New Zealand. I have also ordered the book, "Your Guide to Metabolic Health" I live in Canada.

I appreciate any suggestions or comments that you have.

Sincerely

Kallie

No, I have not read this book, but I will check it out. My opinion is still that you have your Free T3 and Free T4 checked out. The TSH only tells how loud your pituitary is "screaming" for the thyroid to make thyroid hormone. Many people run a TSH like yours, and when they have these two tests done, much to their surprise, their thyroid is not making much hormone at all. In my opinion, in some people, the TSH does not give a good picture of what the thyroid is actually doing.

Thanks . I am surprised my physician did not do any other thyroid tests but the TSH. When she told me my tests were normal, I never checked which ones she had done. I simply assumed I probably had 's Syndrome. I have a doctor's appt for Nov. 14 and will ask to have these tests done. Meanwhile, I'll watch this list, get my book and look forward to regaining my health.

I am so grateful I chose to research some thyroid groups and that we have the internet.

The weird thing about my body temp is that it's all over the place. I'll get my thyroid levels done again in a couple of months, since I just had them drawn on Sept. 30th. At that time I was just starting the initial changes in medication and dropping the T4, so I knew they would probably be bad, but I had to have somewhere to start there. At that time, my temp was running 96.5 before rising from bed, but during the day, it would run anywhere from there to 99. Strange. Now it fluctuates during the day to evening and nighttime anywhere from 97-99. Every time I try to increase to 90 mgs Armour, I start having weird cramps in my arms, palpitations, fast breathing, very uncomfortable. I'm thinking that the one grain MAY be my perfect dose for now because after 3-4 days OFF the 90 mgs, I'm feeling great (at this point). I'm not sure how much the flu vaccine had to do with the way I was feeling, though. I had it over 2 wks ago, and this is my third yr to have it. I have the same symptoms every single time. They say you're only supposed to have mild flu-like symptoms for a couple of days, if anything at all, but every time, I feel like I've got a really bad cold for over a week, maybe two. I know that with autoimmune disease, you're really not supposed to take vaccines, but, in my case, I work the nursing floor, so it's much more dangerous for me not to have it. The flu itself can be a killer for us autoimmune people, so I opted for what I consider the less of two evils. Today was the first time in months that I feel great all over! I know that I really need all the other hormone testing you're suggesting, and I will, all before the end of this yr, hopefully. I KNOW I haven't had any progesterone since I was in my late 20s, and I'm now 52. I just don't want to do any more blind treatment to go with what I'm doing, so that I'll know which thing is which, symptomwise. My ferritin is always good.

Re: Question and suggestions for new member

Low ferritin, low estrogen and low progesterone, low dhea and low testosterone can all affect the body temperature, mostly low ferritin.

I don't really know whether HealthCheck has any affiliates there in Canada. That is a good question. I'm not sure if they're only bound to the US. Have you gone into their site and checked that out?

Re: Question and suggestions for new member

Thanks Dusty. I live in Canada so the Health check solution is out. I will go to another walk-in clinic and see if I can talk a doctor into writing a requisition for antibody tests.

Re: Question and suggestions for new member

Hi

I am not on any medication. I know something is wrong because of my low body temperatures and my other symptoms. I have therefore chosen to order the Hormone Regeneration Protocol from http://shop.inspirednutritionals.com/shoploginzone2.asp and it is on its way from New Zealand as of yesterday.

This program to me is holistic and comprehensive--detoxification, candida, thyroid, and adrenals. Since no allopath is going to be of much benefit, I thought I would give this a go. I like the idea of "regeneration". I checked out Dr. Conroy's credentials and they are for real. I have had extensive email messages with the seller of the supplements.

Meanwhile, I will attempt to get the suggested lab work I need. I will just go to another walk-in clinic.

I appreciate all the suggestions and help this group is giving me. I am sure grateful for the internet even though the retired heart surgeon working as a walk-in clinic doctor told me the internet was nothing but a bunch of bunk!!

Dead give-away. A pulse of 62 after you're up and around I'm thinking is a little too low, though not drastic. Any blood pressure problems? If not, I'd swear it's thyroid. Even at that some thyroid people run a higher BP, contrary to popular opinion. Mine fluctuates according to situation.

Re: Question and suggestions for new member

My pulse is always 96.6 - 96.8 every morning at 8 a.m. Right now my pulse is 62 at noon on Saturday.

Plus the fact that we'll be here----all for free! And the stuff we show as evidence doesn't have to do with a travelling circus, selling snake oil and the like. We're not advertising anything, only showing ourselves as living proof. Actually, I think we're all a pretty alite bunch. Sooooo-----take that and that and that, medical paradigm! (Sniff, sniff)

Re: Question and suggestions for new member

There is a lot of 'bunk' on the internet.... it just takes a bit of effort to work passed the bunk and find the good stuff... We can keep far more current online then any given doc can.....

We have hundreds of people researching. We have all kinds of folks testing products - supplements and meds AND combinations - daily.... Ninety nine percent of the people involved live with some type of thyroid disorder and can relate their findings and experiences first hand....how does a single doc match that?

And just as important is that everyone here CARES!!! it's not a job to us. We're here to help each other!!!!!

Who are you more likely to trust?

The doc:

"Here, take a thyroid pill every morning and an antidepressant every day and you'll feel just like new"

..... or....

The person that has been through a dozen doctors in as many years:

"You need to get the correct labs tests and relate that information to your actual symptoms and then adjust the missing hormones until you feel well, it takes time but it's worth the effort to feel human again"

Temps creeping up by night time is generally a sign of adrenal fatigue... but your plan to take it a step at a time to avoid more problems sounds wise.

I suggested it because I learned from experience...trying to maybe save someone else the years of frustration I went through...

Kallie,

My temperatures were running like yours...same symptoms too. I researched about thyroid problems and learned about the antibodies and Hashi's and went to my doctor and asked for the antibody tests. She refused. I insisted. I won! Sure felt good to finally be able to prove that there was a thyroid problem...I've only been trying to convince my doctors for 10 years or so. I heard the same song and dance about the low basal temperature "being normal for me". Is there a way you could get the antibody testing done through Healthcheck USA or something like that if your doctor won't do it? We did my husband's testing through them and got his results when his doctor wouldn't do the tests.
