Hi Everyone,

I have not been on for awhile as I have been having quite a few

problems.

First I am trying to start up a new home business and spending a lot of

time, making no money at it and just trying to do too many things at

once, not getting enough rest. My BF's son is having a lot of problems

and his whole family, which I have to detach from b/c we just found out

that not only is my baby not eating enough and way below what she should

weigh and having behavioral problems but she is mildly autistic.

Some days with my needing sleep and her melt downs and needing constant

attention, I do not know how I can cope. She is starting OT, and Speech

and this week has numerous GI tests (if I can make it). I cancelled an

appt. w/ a Dr. b/c we had not slept in days as my baby was vomiting

during the night (which means we get up, change the bed and give her a

bath etc. ) and of course now they are unwilling to see her for another

year. They only had one appt. to squeeze her in to and I missed it. I

can't stand that attitude. Sometimes you just have to cancel.

Thanks for listening and would appreciate some prayers especially for my

baby, that she gets well and our household gets easier/ less stressful

for everyone.

Thanks,

Annette

Annette, of course you and your baby will be in my prayers.

I'm a psychologist, and studied autism. Without going into detail, I wanted to

tell you that they are having success with autistic children with

anti-depressants. If you'd like more information, write me at

The behavioral problems of some autistic disorders respond very well to

Strattera, the non-stimulant used in ADD/ADHD. My older boy is a Strattera

success story. He still has behaviors that are problematic, but then he is

15...

Remember that not everything works for everybody. If your baby doesn't get

results from one thing, keep on looking.

The answers are out there, even if the !@#%!@# specialists haven't found them

yet. It took over 10 years, a change in the mindset of the specialists and a

great deal of pushing on my part to get my boy re-evaluated and get the DX of

Autistic Spectrum Disorder / Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

Thanks Dixie and Robin. We have no idea why my 18 month cannot

eat. She is still basically a size 9 months except her legs are

longer, her ribs stick out. I finally called Birth to 3 myself and

had her evaluated as she ha quite abnormal behaviors and is quite

behind most kids her age. She has Sensory Integration Disorder for

sure but we do not know what other from of autism she has. The

evals are difficult as she has total stranger anxiety so will not

perfrom tasks when prompted. Her temper tantrums are about 5-6 a

day and I don't want to give in to her screaming every time, but if

I don't she does not stop and I cannot take it. I am sure I will

get some help from the therapists. So far the Dr.'s are of of no

help. It is just so hard on me that my health is also suffering.

This week she has 4 appointments and I hope I can make mine. I lost

my SSI so am trying to sell products online which is not easy

especially to replace what I lost. I am not really looking forward

to the holidays this year or having any work to do for others as I

need a rest. I am not getting help from my partner i fact he

expects me to take care of him too and he sleeps while I mostly take

care of our baby as he is up all night relaxing while I try to make

money or worry and cry.

I don't know about other states, but in Cali there is an excellent resource

available: The Regional

Centers for the Developmentally Disabled. If you are in Cali and with the DX

that your little one

has, you should qualify for their services - one of which is respite care.

They can also help

find specialists who know what they are dong, good early-intervention programs,

etc.
