Hi,

how much Vitex did you use?

Also, it may be worth considering Mucuna pruriens (should be available from

pukka) as this is high in l-dopa (used in Parkinson's) and so should have an

antagonistic effect on prolactin levels.

regards,

gursewa harrad.

I wonder if I might ask for any help with the following patient?

I have been treating this patient in her early 30’s for 2 yrs now with a

combination of homeopathy and herbal medicine, achieved a modest reduction

in prolactin levels but have not re-established her periods yet – any

suggestions would be greatly appreciated. She came off chemical medicines

because of side-effects. Aetiology believed to be a pituitary tumour.

Prolactic levels now 4750 (recent test, level up)

Amenorrhoea

Breasts change size, with differences between the sides, but have never

produced milk

Sleeps well

Healthy appetite and balanced diet. Exercises regularly (but not to excess)

She is a lean, dry, cold Vata type

Energy levels good. Digestion and elimination good now, after treatment.

Tendency to anaemia – tongue pale, palms and conjunctivae pale. Is taking Fe

amongst other supplements.

Tongue very coated, especially posteriorly, and has by and large resisted

attempts to clear (clear ama)

Herbal medicines prescribed, amongst others, include:

Triphala, kanchanar guggul, Triphala guggul, trikatu, Ashwaganda, shatavari

(Asparagus rac.), , Zingiber, Vitex, Trifolium, Daucus.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Thanks

Craig

Dear Craig,

I have a breast enhancement cream available which has been

used by others to help even up differences in sizes etc. although it

is rather expensive, please contact me off list regarding this:

In cases of excessive milk production certain Chinese herbs can be

very effective but I note that no milk is being produced.

Vitex only in relatively small doses – up to 20 drops of FE o.m. . Have

tried her on Mucuna in conjunction with Ashwaganda and Shatavari.

Any suggestions?

Hi Craig,

Re Vitex: a small dose will increase prolactin levels; a larger dose will

decrease them.

Tribulus terrestris may help.

Have a look in the archives because there was a lot posted on

hyperprolactinaemia

Best wishes

Hi Craig,

I would be tempted to use much higher dosages of Vitex to suppress prolactin -

around 40gtt FE or even add it to the main mix, with the first dose first thing

in the morning. As for the Mucuna, it might be worth trying it on its own at a

higher dose (as a powder, not tincture) or as Seb Pole suggests, with Tribulus

to enhance the conversion to L-dopa.

good luck,

g.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will look into higher doses of Vitex and

Mucuna. Also recently discovered that Artemisia vulg. has high levels of

Bromine in it, so may look into that.

Best wishes

That's interesting, thanks Morag. (nice illustration of Arnd-Shulz

principle) What do you consider a small and large dose?

Best wishes
