Guest guest
This post disturbs me. That's all I'm gonna say. Helena What was President Obama Thinking? Hi ACT, Below is an email I just received from Grossman, an hypnotherapist. What does this have to do with ACT. It's not just a matter of identifying values. You have live them too or get your feet moving in your value direction. Greetings, On January 31st President Obama signed a proclamation to make the month of February "American Heart Month". Obama has been pushing for children to eat more nutritious food. One in three adults in the United States lives with cardiovascular disease. One in three is obese and two out of three Americans are overweight. In Japan and South Korea only 3.2% are obese. The President's message was to eat healthy and exercise. Good message! But his actions are different from his proclamation. Here's why. One week later the White House hosted a Super Bowl Party for 200 people. The menu was anything but heart healthy. Here is what was served: - Bratwurst- Kielbasa- Cheeseburgers- Deep Dish Pizza- Buffalo Wings- German Potato Salad- Twice Baked Potatoes- Snyders Potato Chips and Pretzels- Chips and Dips- Salad- Ice Cream Other than the salad, every single item on the menu is filled with artery clogging, saturated fat that raises cholesterol levels and refined carbohydrates that cause weight gain. It's our Standard American Diet (SAD) that is causing the upward trend in obesity, cancer, and heart disease. Vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds are the foods that protect us from heart disease. They lower cholesterol. They also protect us from cancer, diabetes, auto immune disease and Alzheimer's disease. The President's Proclamation and First Lady's campaign to fight obesity with nutrition and exercise do send a good message...and I am all for Super Bowl parties. But the White House Super Bowl Menu was the opposite of the message in the proclamation. It would have been easy to feature heart healthy food at the White House Super Bowl party but it wasn't done. The bottom line is that we have to learn about nutrition ourselves. We can't count on others to do it for us. Each one of us needs to get on board with healthy eating to set a good example for our family and those who look up to us. Let's make every month of the year a heart healthy one! Guest guest
If we all begin focusing on how public figures we've never met are or aren't moving in a valued direction according to ACT principles, discussion is going to get dragged into the weeds pretty quickly and a resource many people find useful for helping with their own issues will become less helpful where it counts.
