I am having trouble convincing my practice to purchase one as the DVM's are skeptical of their efficacy. I have showed them many case studies and testimonials but the studies I have been provided with are from the Laser rep and they want something that is unbiased. Thanks! Laser was one of the treatment groups and acupuncture, sham acupuncture and negative controls were the other groups. The study was done at UFlorida, and was comprised of rhesus monkeys with glaucoma. The laser (Respond, class IIIB) was used on acupuncture points and though not as profound as the needles, still caused a significant decrease in IOP. The observer was blinded though double blinding would be next to impossible to do in most of these types of studies. It was prospective and randomised though. I also reviewed a study out of Italy that used cold laser at AP points, and the significant outcome was to decrease neuropathic pain, and histologically decrease inflammation of cystitis in rats. The other thing you can do is get on pubmed. There will be many good studies there. BTW, are you related to Steve Radostits? I was in the WCVM class following his..... Clinical studies have shown that laser helps with neuronal and cartilage regeneration. I think if you search this listserv you will find the articles! Guest guest Posted October 24, 2011 Report Share Posted October 24, 2011 There is an impressive references section (over 2000 in the list) at the end of "The New Laser Therapy Handbook" by Jan Tuner and Lars Hode. Some of the studies listed are better than others, of course, but there are plenty that lend strong support to the use of therapeutic lasers. You have to order the book directly from Prima Books (in Sweden), but I think it was worth the $$ and it didn't take much longer to get to my door than some of the books I have purchased in the States.
