Guest guest
I wrote it. Just tell him you heard or read that valium works directly on the spine, and know someone who finds a small dose along with a small dosage of painkillers more effective than lots of narcotic meds. Letting him know you're willing to reduce the narcotics to try valium should get the message through. Zanaflex and Skelakin are two other muscle relaxers. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lori Lokks I have also seen on here, can't remember who it was, said valium works directly on the spine. I have a DR. Appt. tomorrow. How do I ask for this stuff without sounding like a drug addict?
Guest guest
I was given Baclofen by a doctor that couldn't take me on as his patient but had such compassion and humanity that he wrote a script for pain meds and the Baclofen until I could find another pain doctor. He started me on 10 mg 3x a day and I'm still at that dosage, the difference was really like a miracle :-) I was lucky enough to find another pain doc who has added Valium to my regime. I find that Valium takes the spikes down even on the worst of days. I am taking 5mg of the Valium when I need it for breakthrough pain. Perhaps your doctor could discuss this as an option? My muscles were so stiff and nothing would stop the spasms, I could hardly walk, sit etc. I still refer to those days as my Tim Conway little old man days. I will light a candle for you in hope of a compassionate doctor. Starwish in Vegas Blessed Be )O(
Guest guest
Hi, I don't know if you'd be into trying something herbal, (I take Soma too) and when it's not enough I take 2 different night time herbal supplements, and drink night time teas. By adding some natural relaxants I find I don't need more and more rx's. Some of the herbs that help muscle spasms are valerian, hops, skullcap, passionflower, dandelion, chamomile, marshmallow, hawthorn, niacin, vit. b6, kava kava, carrot root, GABA, Taurine, quercetin, DHEA, Catnip, peppermint, blackberry, licorice, the list goes on and on. These are what I take, in supplement or tea form, and the combo with the soma really works, it's like they heighten the effect of the soma, but without having to take a dangerous amount, and without seeming like an addict. I actually sleep much better when I do the whole combo. And it's safe, it's hard to OD on herbs. I know how you feel with the knotted up muscles - I tell my rhumetologist, it feels like my muscles turn into stone, completely hard, solid, inflamed, and completely unstrecthable. Even bending over to put shoes on can be excruciating, and I'm only 31, and am underweight, tall and lanky. I found flexeril to be like sugar cubes, it did nothing for me. I also use a variety of oils on my skin over the really bad parts, I found oils with grape seed oil and arnica to be the best. Good luck to you in your search for the right combo. Wishing you a peaceful nights sleep!!! Jules Lori Lokks > I had never heard that about soma making spasm worse. I take 3 > 250's a day, and still no relief. Guest guest
Hello Everyone: I've been meaning to get into this thread of topic but I keep getting side tracked. Not enough hours in the day. And once my husband is home well. The computer is off limits unless its wrestling night for him. I'd like to suggest as I know these things used to work for me prior to the pain levels getting so d*mn high. A combination of pure and i cannot stress this enough essential oils must be pure or you poison the body further. The bottles have to say all natural, and or pure and if in doubt ask the sales person at a health food store. But anyways a combination of lavenduer oil and sweet orange oil is wonderful for relaxation smells nice and is good for you. Here are three cold expressed oils which some massage therapists use. Now mind you the first one Chaulmoogra is in the materia medica. Do not drive, or have to do anything where your handling machinery or anything which could be a danger to you. Now I'm not trying to scare you but each person I've known reacts far differently to this oil. Chaulmoogra oil comes from brazil. I have used it on folks who simply could NOT unwind. Even the bottle i have now which is several years old still has an effect on my husband when he's ultra tense i will apply it to his back and lightly rub it in and within a matter of about15 minutes he starts to let go physically. I have seen people react from going totally silly using this oil, to acting drunk to sleeping deeply. several years ago one of my students was using this very oil on me but massaged my whole body with it. OMG big mistake I literally lost 3 days I have no memory. But it is an oil that I will always use simply cause it does help not only myself but my husband to relax. If you purchase this oil start with small amounts until you find out how you will react to it. Do not take it internally. Another combination you might want to try is Copaiba oil, and Androba oil. Again both south american oils but when mixed together it causes a chemical reaction and have a slightly warming effect that is natural. You can add the lavenduer oil and sweet orange oil to this for a nice night time rub down prior to bed. or even mix in a lil chaulmoogra oil. If your interested in trying any of these you can get them wholesale at www.libertynatural.com I know they work for me. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. Guest guest
Have you tried Baclofen? I have had good success with it in the past. Flexaril gave me really weird thoughts after a few days. Kaylene My spasms are not completely paralyzing as I have had in the past, but areas in my back that will just stay knotted up...NO MATTER WHAT. > Blessed Be, Lori in California > > > >

Guest guest
Just remember, everyone is different and what works for one person may be completely useless for you. Baclofen did nothing at all for me. I might as well have swallowed air. But a friend became so muscle-relaxed that he would pee his pants, fall over and pass out from Baclofen. Flexeril did nothing at all for him. For me it worked. I have no idea why the @!#$!#@ gnomes at HealthNet MediCal Managed Care decided to switch me to Soma, but they did... Yup. Isn't that cute? It was some !@#$@! bean-counter at HealthNet that made the decision - not my Dr. They have arbitrarily altered several of my meds by either changing the medication or the frequency / dosage and totally stopped others. Now I get nothing at all which is directly for pain and only half of what I need for my Meniere's Syndrome [diuretic yes, antihistamine no]. And whereas before I got 90 Flexeril for a month [1 every 8 hours for 30 days] I am now expected to make 30 Soma last just as long... Wicked / Robin A. Vosburg, who absolutely hates HealthNet
Guest guest
Thanks Robin, It is something I always take into consideration. With everything I have tried so far, I have learned all too well that some things just plain don't work for me;-) Why on earth those trolls are allowed to dictate medications is beyond me! If the flexeril was working....sheesh If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!! good luck dealing with that Blessed Be, Lori in California
