hi keilia, when my sore throats are bad (almost every night) I use honey

which you can get in a lollipop form. It seems to make the most difference.

And I have tea at the same time with honey in it. Have you tried that

combo? It may help a little. It doesn't take the sore throat totally away,

but it helps. I also find that sucrets help more than most cough drops. I

truly understand your pain and hope this helps a little. If you can't find

the honey pops... go to pike place market and get honey sticks.

hugs

Keilia, so sorry this is happening to you. When Mike gets this (and it feels

like his throat is going to close in on him and he can't swallow etc) he gargles

with warm salt water. For some reason, this does seem to help.

Also, try to drink as much water as you can...especially when flying. Good

luck.

Sore Throat

Soooooo here I go again with the sore throat and a new case of pneumonia -

thats the 4th round of pneumonia since Aug 1, 2009.

Any hints on the sore throat? Lozenges and hot tea dont seem to be doing it.

And it hurts BADLY. And since my pain meds are an inhalent, I cant have a sore

throat very long until I am in complete misery.

The Planequel seems to be working a little. My fevers are no longer every

night, but are intermittent. But I'm still sick 90% of the time. And I hurt 99%

of the time. So, it's not under control by any means.

I have to take a plane next week from WA state to TX. Im afraid to because of

lower oxygen, speading germs (pneumonia germs), and god only knows what else I

am afraid my body will do. But I have no choice, I HAVE to go (court date,

family court, my ex is an ass, etc).

swallow anything.

Dear Kelia,

so sorry for all you are going through... just know you are not alone!

as for the plane ride, don't feel funny wearing a surgical mask if you

must, if it keeps you safe then so be it... and wash you hands frequently

especially after you come OUT of the bathroom (hand sanitizer) as people who do

not wash their hands.... the next thing they touch is that DOOR KNOB!

so be extra careful!

I've heard good things about those immune booster things like " Airborne " or

" Zycam " products but can't testify to their effectiveness, I've read the

packaging though and it looks lilke vitamins and zinc, that kind of thing,

can't hurt to take a look at those (a mention to your dr. never hurts) and

don't forget to get up and move around a few times or you'll get really

stiff.

I'm sure court will be stressful, so be kind to yourself and rest extra

before and after, keep us posted, we'll be thinking of you!

xo

Those OTC mentioned contain zinc. Zinc has been shown in studies to shorten the

duration of a cold. However, it will not help if your sore throat is caused by

swollen lymph nodes from Stills. Certainly trying zinc lozenges won't hurt you,

but they probably won't help either if it's from the Stills.

And the advice about washing your hands is true; that's much more likely to make

you sick than anything you inhale. And you can't prevent inhaling viruses on a

plane because all the air is recycled. Masks only help prevent viruses passed

along through coughing and sneezing. They act as a barrier to stop the

projectile liquids from accessing the mucous membranes in your mouth and nose.

Anything that is airborne (outside of those carried in liquids) would be too

small to be stopped by a mask anyway. Those masks are NOT airtight or you

wouldn't be able to breathe, right? [g]

Good luck on your flight.

Another reminder about OTC meds with hight doses of zinc, meant to slow or

decrease cold symptoms. There are losenges, throad and nasal sprays available.

A the very least, be sure to follow any directions closely. There have been

doucmented cases of them effecting olfactory (smell) and taste nerves.

Resulting in no longer being able to taste or smell things.

Just be cautious.

greetings keilia,

ok, i use an old 'recipe' of my grandmother's when i have a sore throat.  it

sounds a little strange to most people, but it has always hepled me.  and even

if it doesn't help, it'll do no harm.  mix equal parts honey and apple cider

vinegar (you can use up to 2 parts honey to 1 vinager for taste)  now add approx

1-2 tablespoons of honey/vinager to 4-6 oz very hot water.  sip while hot as

often as you want.  it stings a little at first and the taste takes a little

getting used to, but it has always helped me.

blessings,

elizabeth
