Guest guest
Hello,Yesterday a dog came into my clinic with intermittent right forelimb lameness that has been present for approximately 3 weeks. The dog is an 18 month old male Belgian Terv. He has mild atrophy of the right supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles. When flexing the shoulder there is decreased elbow extension however a pain response was not elicited at this point. I did elicit a pain response when performing the biceps retraction test. I would like this dog to go to an orthopedic specialist for a definitive diagnosis. I have mixed reviews as to what is best used to diagnose this problem. Can you please share your opinions as to what method(s) you use for diagnosis?Thank you. Guest guest
Please describe the biceps retraction test. I don't recognize the name, but maybe I do this without having a name for it. Have you done any x-rays or looked at the muscles with the ultrasound? Is there any pain with palpation on the insertion points of the supra- and infraspinatus? Is there any pain with palpation of the elbow, esp. medial compartment of elbow? Do you have any videos of this dog moving? What kind of activity does this dog do? Is it training for any sports? Just wondering. Christie Carlo, DVM, CCRT > > > Hello, > Yesterday a dog came into my clinic with intermittent right forelimb lameness that has been present for approximately 3 weeks.
