On my recent birthday, I invited local friends to come over for " cake, coffee and conversation " . I made a cake and a friend brought over another and by the end of the evening, they were both gone. I had been given delicious choc macadamia nut kona coffee that I served. My small place was full of people and laughter. Truly a special evening. Elaine i hear there's snow again in a lot of southern areas. Guest guest Posted March 7, 2008 Report Share Posted March 7, 2008 It is in the high 30's here tonight, but spring is progressing apace. Daffodils are blooming and the azaleas are just ready to open. A few of the earliest roses are about to open as well. We had a really fierce storm last night and a few more of the high branches broken but not dropped by hurricane Katrina came down. Eventually all will be rotted and fallen. I should hire someone to come and get all the dead wood out, but with the number of trees on this property, I will just save the money, let Mother Nature do it and hope no branch falls on my head. She was telling me that they had a lot of snow a couple of weeks back, and then an ice storm, and told how beautiful it was. I can remember once in my life, when we lived in Vicksburg, MS (about 200 miles north of here), we had an ice storm, then sun the next day, turning the world to sparkling crystal.' Breathtaking! Not by the standards of some states but for us when it stays in the 60's day and 30's night it is COLD! But daffodils are blooming and cherry trees, and peach trees. Crocus are nearly done. Tulips are on the way. And my first rose of the year is being closely followed by a second. Spring! I had to work at the post office this morning and I was in a hurry. Louisville, Ky is not too far from here. I can't remember just how far. Southern Indiana is not far at all. In fact when anyone around here has a pretty serious illness they go to the hospital in ville, Ind or St. Louis, Mo or Paducah Ky. Paducah is only 55 miles from here ville and St. Louis are pretty close to the same - maybe a LITTLE further. What part of Kentucky does your girlfriend live? YES---the first ice storm we had a couple weeks ago was BEAUTIFUL - it was like all the trees were crystal - we got rid of that and a few days later got more ice - that time the ice was more lacy looking and didn't last long at all. However, no matter how beautiful it was I have had ENOUGH - I'm ready for some of those beautiful spring flowers you were talking about.
