Guest guest
Have you considered recommending a DNA-PCR Lyme blood test...? Joint aches...pericarditis... general fatigue/malaise...outdoor work... it is a very easy and non-invasive test. I would strongly recommend... that is a classic picture here in the northeast US. Tami NJ USA pericarditis Anyone any experience of treating pericarditis? I saw a new patient yesterday - 51 year old man, Dx acute pericarditis 2 weeks ago. Given Ibuprofen. Last week had blood test and he reports " raised protein count and slightly raised WBC " - exact levels not known. At Dx on auscultation patient said that his GP could hear crunching/rubbing sound, which had resolved when he visited doctor earlier this week, so GP stopped Ibuprofen. ECG yesterday and NAD, although fast heart rate. I thought I could still hear very faint systolic rub. He had been feeling under the weather on and off since March, cold Sx with alternating slight fever and chill, flitting joint aches. Continued to work - does a mixture of labouring and site engineer, mainly outdoor work. Now he feels like he's on the mend, but tires very easily and is quite weepy (which he reports is very unlike him), still has flitting joint aches. Also heart rate can suddenly get very high for no apparant re! ason. No chest pain, no SOBOE, no orthopnoea, no dyspnoea. He lives on his own following divorce 5years ago - great deal of animosity toward his ex wife. His diet is poor, rarely has fresh fruit and veg, high saturated fat, drinks mainly tea and coffee. He smokes 20 cigarettes daily. 2 pints beer daily on average. No recreational drugs. Prior to this episode of ill-health he reports that he was very fit, keen walker, pot-holer and skier. BP 128/82 Pulse regular 96 bpm. I've prescribed him the following mixture- Echinacea (blend angustifolia and purpurea) Crataegus Astragalus Curcuma Baptisia And have also ordered a good multi-vitamin and mineral for him. we discussed dietary change, but he felt that his work (could be anywhere in country at short notice) means that if he's realistic, he's unlikely to change his eating habits. He is seriously considering giving up smoking! Any ideas for other appropriate herbs would be much appreciated.
