To Mark and Nan: I'm in Southern California, USA, too. I was diagnosed

with bronchiectasis in October/November 2007. So I'm still kinda new

to this. Fortunately, I don't seem to have many, if any, symptoms

right now.

I was

diagnosed with bronchiectasis and ABPA in 2006.

I live in USA, Pennsylvania.

This is Joan in Melbourne Florida, USA. Prob had bronch a long

time. Diagnosed 2 years ago. Went thru everything to finally

picc-line 2 times a day at infusion center for a month, while using vest 2

times a day, while inhaling TOBI 2 times a day,. It all paid off. Feel

very good now and off everything,. But I know it is still there and will

act up again, but in the meantime, all is well.

What a great idea . thanks for your time and interest in doing this. I grew up

as an

asthmatic child in the coal mining valleys of South Wales Uk .,Both my parents

smoked

and we spent many a winters evening around a kerosene heater.Added to that I

followed

my passion in Art college in Ceramics= , mold , silica & dust!!!!.

I'm 58 I was diagnosed at 26 and had an upper lobe removed at 28 in the UK.

that gave

me about 10 fairly good years . Was told I would never work full time again . I

have since

moved to New York in 1983, divorced and am managing a VERY full time teaching

job.

My brother has just been diagnosed with rare and fatal IPF ( Ideopathic

Pulmonary

fibrosis) I'm assured by my Pulmo guy that its not hereditary but i've found

research that it

could be genetic.

It is a very skinny, little tube put in

your arm thru which abx are injected straight to the heart, then to the

lungs. My body became immune to all oral abx, so this was the route. Joy can

prob explain it better.

im 42 and have had lung problems since i was 9 y,o, resulting from a bi lateral pnuemonia,, i was hops' for months,, pronounced dead a few times,had several chest tubes, a treach',,,, but came back,, since then ive allways had to bring up mucus daily and prob have maybe half the normal lung capacity, as the years went on i needed inhalers and other meds to deal with it,, but i always fought to live a normal life and went to school and worked full time my whole life instead of letting it control my life

Hi Bill, I can relate,

had bi-lat pneumonia as an infant, lung collapse, again about 20yrs old, and again about 20yo – a different form that time.

However, I was often unwell and had <20 surgeries by age 20....more impact on lungs, so can’t say I could ignore it much, but I guess at 42 I was doing by best to do so. I wish I’d had better management then, even a decade ago, maybe I’d be a bit healthier 56yo instead of feeling such loss of ability now....

Keep your docs on their toes, ask questions, I hope you have better luck....
