Morning All,

This is just way too eerie for me. I now have Shingles! At the moment, the EN is quiet, I am on 5mg of prednisone, the nodules are small, and not really doing anything, but not gone either. On reading about Shingles, HSV is mentioned often, and is usually a problem for people with compromised immune systems such as myself. The other oddity I suffer is candidas or thrush in the esophagus, which again is common in immune compromised people, and those who have been on long term steroid treatment.

I have just had a wonderful two-week holiday with my Mum, and couldn't have been more relaxed or stress free, but the Shingles broke out soon after we left. About 8 weeks ago, I had what felt like a cold sore coming up on my lip and saw my doctor that day, he gave me some medication (can't remember the name of them!) and the cold sore didn't eventuate, one must wonder if this is/was all related? And why? Can't get an appointment now until next Friday...........

Re: EN and HSV

Hi Robyn,No, I have HSV 2... I really can't remember whether I had HSV breakouts during my previous EN episodes, but this time the link is so obvious it just can't be a coincidence. In my case the HSV breakout and EN occured at the same time.Is it the first time you have had a cold sore?AnnePS Thanks for your message : I'll monitor the situation and let you know how I get on :-) I found a great source of information on how to boost your immune system specifically in relation to HSV: http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/immune-system.htm (the whole website is really good)so I'll follow their advice and see how I get on.> >> > Hi all,> > > > I've been a member of the group for years but have never posted before.> > > > I've had idiopathic EN, associated with rheumatoid arthritis since 2001. Various tests were done, and all discarded the most common causes for EN. I also had my first episode of uveitis the same year I had my first EN outbreak, but no consultant has ever made the link between the two conditions.> > > > EN+RA and uveitis came and went at irregular intervals, but not necessarily together, and I just learned to accept it as part of my life, resting and taking Ibuprofen for the one and cortico-steroid eye drops for the other when they occured. > > > > Well, today I believe I've found the link! I've suspected for years I might have HSV but just kept postponing getting a confirmation from a gynecologist until today. HSV sores usually last for 5 to 10 days, and I'm on the second outbreak in the last 6 weeks. The first one coincides precisely with the beginning of the most severe EN + RA episode I've had in the last two years. No uveitis mind you, touch wood!> > > > Once I got home I googled EN and HSV, and uveitis and HSV. Eureka! After 10 years!! Now I just need to make sure I eliminate causes of stress (on this forum the link between stress and EN has been discussed many times) and look after my weakened immune system, as both trigger HSV outbreaks, and the associated EN and uveitis. I know the forum is full of good advice to that effect, so thanks a million to all, and to ML Gemmill and in particular!> > > > Best,> > Anne> >>

I agree GG!Gluten Free will amaze you. I am EN free. Also had parasites and bacteria, candida and used an herb protocol to rid my self of them. I take my probiotics religiously. I had to respond to this! I am a nurse and my legs were worse than most of the cardiac patients I see. It was horrible. I had every test in the book..and no answers. I turned to a naturopath (which i had never been to before) and the first thing she suggested was a gluten free diet, Probiotics, and some other natrual anti-inflammatory pills. My legs when from looking like were covered in cellulitis, with pitting edema beyond words.....to completely normal. I actually cant believe it myself. I would definitely suggest it to anyone that cant find their answers, it certainly cant hurt!love to you all. Its nice to hear from people that understand what you are going through :)To: erythema_nodosum_Group Sent: Fri, April 8, 2011 10:08:17 AMSubject: Re: Re: EN and HSV

I took beladona 1 tab 3 times a day for three days, along with Probiotics, and turmeric 3 times a day, with glutamine and omega 3s twice a day! Sounds like a lot, but I decided to hold off on the potassium iodide i had been prescribed (by the dermatologist) and see what happened taking the above along with going gluten free. I figured it was worth a shot.... within a few days it was shockingly better, and within a week it was gone! Heres hoping this is my one and only encounter with EN, because noone wants to go through that pain...not at 23.. or any age! I couldnt be more thankful for stumbling upon this group as well! Also enjoyed that video! Looking forward to hearing your results! To: erythema_nodosum_Group Sent: Fri, April 8, 2011 2:23:46 PMSubject: Re: EN and HSV

Hi Everyone,

What an amazing video! Shows it is never too late to get healthy! Louise--Please let us know the results of your "fatsickandnearlydead" juicing diet!

I'm very impressed with finding a natural way to get into an EN remission! Do you remember the anti inflammatory pills you took (take?)? Sounds like you belong on our "cured members list";-)

I just got back from the gym--remission is wonderful !

Wishing Everyone a Happy and Pain free weekend.

Love,

Wow that is wonderful! I only did the gluten free and mine was gone (I’m 46).

So at twice your age I had a similar experience ith the gluten free seeming to be the ticket. Mind you I was not really eating gluten before though, and hadn’t for years, so I was QUITE surprised that this was the outcome. However, I feel quite quite sure now that it was, several months down the road.

I have seen a lot of other changes too simply from not even having the gluten products I used to have oonly a handful of times per year
