Guest guest
Hi smitka_k. Is there another name we may call you? I am curious about the state of fitness in India. Do you see many people out running or walking for exercise? Do you have parks, or is it common to walk or run next to the roads? Are there gyms where people " work out " ? Are there any clubs devoted to walking or running? I suggest joining a club if you have them, and making friends with others who have the same goals as you do. You can exercise together and motivate each other. If not, just keep walking!! Alice > > Hello everyone. Like a lot of people I have been battling the bulge > all my life. Guest guest
Hi Alice Nice to hear from you. In fact fitness is huge in India. We have parks and gyms, in fact I myself have a gym membership which unfortunately I have not used properly due to my laziness. Anyway, my goal is to hit the gym everyday till the marathon here which is on May 18th. There are infact a lot of running clubs, and I am planning to join one. Btw, my name is Smita. Full name would be Smita Konduru. SO where do you live Alice? Smita > > > > Hello everyone. Like a lot of people I have been battling the bulge > > all my life. Guest guest
Hi Smita_k, invest in a bicycle. a simple inexpensive bike you could ride at the end of the group of people running. I would recommend something like a simple bike since you have short notice about the 10 km walk. If you are not ready physically for the duration of 10k your walking or running could do more damage to your legs and feet than the worth of it all. regards from Bill > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Hi Smita, I live in California. It is a very rural area in the Central Valley. I work in Bakersfield which is about 50 miles (84 km) from our home. I am within a 90 minute drive of the Sierra mountains, and I hike at least one day every weekend. There is still too much snow to get into the high country, so until the snow melts, I am hiking at lower elevation. Yesterday my hiking club went to the top of a minor mountain called Lightner Peak, at 6400 feet (1951 meters). We hiked 11 miles (17.7 km) with an elevation gain of 4000 feet (1220 m) It was a strenuous outing! I try to walk every day. My arthritic knees will not allow me to run or do any high-impact activities, but walking and climbing seem to be okay. I recently started doing some core strength training (back and abs as well as arms and legs) and I am seeing a big difference in how good my back feels. Let us know how you are progressing! Guest guest
Hey Bill Nice to hear from you. I think your idea is good. But I am determined to walk the 10 kms. Only if I walk will I actually come to know how unfit I am with respect to others, and how much further I need to improve. I have decided that even if it takes me 3 hours, or even if I am the last to finish I will do it. I guess it should not be very bad, because I manage to do one and a half hours of cardio at a stretch when I go to the gym. So lets see how it goes. Keep in touch. Regards Smita > > > > Hello everyone. Like a lot of people I have been battling the bulge > > all my life. Guest guest
Wow, you must be pretty fit to be able to hike such distances. I have figured out a running club and my aim is to join the club once I start going to the gym regularly. > > > > > > Hi Alice > > > > Nice to hear from you. In fact fitness is huge in India. Guest guest
Smita, how are you doing with your weight loss and fitness over there in India? Alice > > > > > > > > > Hi Alice > > > > > > Nice to hear from you. In fact fitness is huge in India. Guest guest
Hi Alice Not very good unfortunately. May began with a high work load and that put me off the exercise routine comepletely. Then all of this last week my husband has been travelling so I was struck by a very bad bout of loneliness, which in turn led to unhealthy eating. Thankfully he is back tonight, so I aim to get back on track from this weekend (read Friday) onwards. I also have to get a tooth root canaled, so if that happens, then another 2-3 days will be lost. Anyway, please do keep in touch. Last month the group was more active and it helped me keep on track. Smita
