Guest guest
Bill, I am very lucky that so far the MS has not caused any major problems for me. I started having weird things happen when I was pregnant with the twins, but I thought it was because I was pregnant with twins. Then after they were born, I had that tingly neck thing and actually thought maybe I had meningitis. I went to the doctor, and he said it was a pinched nerve. Then later, my leg was numb. I wasn't pregnant, so I couldn't brush it off and ignore it. Then I went through all the tests, a mean neurologist, and finally the one that I currently go to who I love. My husband calls him "the doctor I would marry" because I talk so nicely about him. I have only had a couple things happen to me that the kids even noticed. One morning I woke up so dizzy that when I went to get the kids out of bed, I could not stand up. I crawled down the hall to get them, and then since I didn't want them to worry, we pretended we were elephants for the rest of the day. That way, I could crawl and no one would think anything of it. Also, we pretended that we were sleepy elephants, so I got to lie down a lot. Luckily, the dizziness was better the next day, and completely gone very quickly. The kids just think I am a silly mom, I don't really think they realize why I do the things I do sometimes. We don't lie to them about it, and my oldest has started asking questions, and we answer her honestly, but since it hasn't been a super big deal so far (knock on wood) we have been ok. The last pregnancy was unplanned (but a very happy surprise!) I don't think I would have planned another pregnancy, just because I was already so lucky to have 3 healthy (for the most part) happy kids. I have been fine so far since the baby has been here. The other day, I noticed that I am limping a tiny bit. Just enough to annoy me, but I don't think anyone else can tell. Also, my eye gets blurry at night, so I don't drive after the kids nap. I think I would be ok, but I don't want to take any chances. We get our groceries delivered, and dry cleaning delivered too. I try to save my energy to spend fun time with the kids. I am super lucky that we can afford to have cleaning people, and all the other things that we have done for us, so that I can have all the fun time with the kids that I do. I try to take naps when my kids nap, although now they are getting older and don't really need naps. It is hard to drag myself out of bed sometimes, but I try to go to bed early so I can. I just really think I am a very lucky person. I really annoy my husband with being so happy and thankful about everything, I think sometimes he wonders what is wrong with me! I am also lucky that I live in a neighborhood that helps each other. We watch each others kids, and just help each other out when needed. I don't have any family nearby that is able to help, but if I need anything, I know I can count on my neighbors most of the time. I think most of my positive attitude comes from the fact that I was almost kidnapped when I was little. I was at the bus stop (by myself) and luckily ran fast enough to get away. They caught the guy a few days later, after he had killed another child. Since I know how lucky I am to even be here, I can handle anything else that comes my way. I feel like every day is an extra day that I may not have had if I had not been so lucky. Anyway, this is super long, so I will go now. Hopefully some of my rambling made sense and answered your question. Tori Congratulations Tori You have a nice looking baby. I was wondering with your MS does that cause troubles taking care of the baby? Do you get assistance from family members? Bill
Guest guest
I am glad you are doing well. I have a feeling more people in the group would like to have your doctor as well. I like how you turn a bad thing into a positive thing with your kids. My wife surprises me also she does a great job with her busy schedule now that I have my MS. It seems like she is always doing double duty. Are you also on the MS meds or did you have to put them to the side with being pregnant? Bill Congratulations Tori You have a nice looking baby. Guest guest
I am not on any MS medicines. I was about to start on either Avonex or Copaxone when I found out I was pregnant. I was having a really hard time deciding, and then I found out I was pregnant, so I got a little break from having to decide. I will have to decide eventually though. I wish there was a way to get the small needles from Copaxone with the once a week of Avonex! Have a great night. Tori Re: Congratulations I am glad you are doing well. Guest guest
Avonex is intramuscular and Copaxone is subcutaneous, ergo the different sized needles. I've given my wife 230 Avonex injections since March 1999 without a problem. We use an ice pack on the injection site so that the needle prick is a lot less noticeable.
