Guest guest
This product is advertised as : "The Nature's Treasure thus obtained is combined with pure Chicory Maltodextrin Extract, which makes the product suitable for confectionery and baking applications. " Then they say it has no carbohydrates. Since Maltodextrin is a sugar, how can it have no carbos? nnType 2, Dx Oct 98, Avandia, Amaryl, Glucophage, Lipitor, Prinivil, MDI H & NPHCheck out my Furry Faced Buddies at: http://home.ptd.net/~tottie/ Natural sweetener that is great for people with Diabetes. Guest guest
nne, maltodextrin is a carbohydrate with 4 calories per gram. It is notably sticky or binding, so used in products for binder. Here is a quote. Hallelujah Acres Teaching Health from a Biblical Perspective Free health tip Contact Us Home Rev. Can the cascara sagrada in Herbal Fiberblend discolor my colon and cause melanosis coli? What does Rev. Malkmus say about Just Carrots, the dehydrated carrot juice powder? What do I do to find out more about Renewed Balance? What is the best way to take Barleygreen? Barleygreen is best taken under the tongue or mixed in a couple ounces of distilled water or stirred into 8-oz. of carrot juice. Please do not mix Barleygreen with Herbal Fiberblend or any other kind of colon cleanser as doing so will neutralize much of its nutritional value. Rev. Malkmus also discourages Barleygreen being mixed with any fruit juice. Does Barleygreen contain any gluten? According to the manufacturer, " Gluten is a protein that is found in mature cereal grains or kernels. Barleygreen is made with the juice of young barley grass shoots (about 8 " -14 " in height) harvested before the kernel is formed. Therefore, we believe there is no gluten in the juice extract from barley leaves. " Another ingredient in Barleygreen, maltodextrin, is a carbohydrate made from corn starch. Our manufacturer uses a low unit number of maltodextrin to ensure ideal encapsulation and no gluten contamination. The brown rice in Barleygreen is an extract (not a solid) so it is gluten-free as well. The last ingredient in Barleygreen, kelp, is a natural source of iodine containing numerous other minerals. " What is maltodextrin, the enzyme stabilizer used in Barleygreen? AIM tells us that maltodextrin is a natural, complex carbohydrate. It is not a simple sugar (dextrose, fructose, sucrose, table sugar, corn syrup, etc.) and does not behave like a simple sugar. It can be derived from potato or corn starch, and its starch component frees glucose across the human intestinal barrier in a time-release fashion over several hours. No steep rise or fall of blood sugar results

Guest guest
Good question, nne... Most of the artificial sweeteners on the market today have a bit of maltodextrin mixed in the little packets as a binder and they tell you on the label the little packet has 1 carb or <1 carb per packet. I don't know what this stuff is made of or how much maltodextrin it has in it. I use Splenda and am quite happy with that Meenie This product is advertised as : "The Nature's Treasure thus obtained is combined with pure Chicory Maltodextrin Extract, which makes the product suitable for confectionery and baking applications. Guest guest
Meenie, I use Splenda also and it is all I will ever want in an artificial sweetener. I love the Diet Rite Cola with Splenda. That's the only flavor they carry in my town, but I got a 6-pack through mail order of the Tangerine and it was outstanding. nnType 2, Dx Oct 98, Avandia, Amaryl, Glucophage, Lipitor, Prinivil, MDI H & NPHCheck out my Furry Faced Buddies at: http://home.ptd.net/~tottie/ Good question, nne... Guest guest
I agree the tangerine is the best. The cola is good but kinda sweet. Same wiht the kiwi-strawberry. My sister called the splenda folks last week re: when splenda would be available in stores and they told her the shipments are on the way to most of the major supermarket chains as they spoke! And sure enough, today I found it at my neighborhood Food Lion In packets and granular and two sizes too! Yaay Now I hope they start making more products containing it. Guest guest
I found some more information about Natures Treasure form the Amazon Natural Treasures, Inc. web site http://www.amazon-treasures.com Nature's Treasure Information Here is some detailed information on the make-up of Nature's Treasure (Naturaae Gustusus) NATURE'S TREASURE - PRODUCT NO. AR0124GR Nature's Treasure is a 100% pure natural product derived from the leaves of a small plant found in the lower Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. The Latin name for this variety of plant has been named " Naturaae Gustusus " which means Nature's Treasure in English. It is known by its botanical name: " Dimorphandra Gardneriana Officinalis " . Nature's Treasure is extracted from the leaves of this plant through a proprietary decoction process, which does not utilize nor adds any chemicals or foreign substances to the final product. The Nature's Treasure thus obtained is combined with pure Chicory Maltodextrin Extract, which makes the product suitable for confectionery and baking applications. Nature's Treasure is available in granular and powdered form and does not contain preservatives or artificial ingredients. Nature's Treasure has characteristics, which allows it to be used in the same application as sugar (saccharose or sucrose). The Nutritional Facts analysis found that Nature's Treasure per serving has 0 fat, 0 cholesterol, 0 sodium, 0 carbohydrates and 0 protein. It also leaves no after taste as do some synthetic sweeteners, is also non-fermentable, does not promote tooth decay, yet is equal or better in taste than cane sugar. Nature's Treasure possesses natural properties that permit its use as an ideal sugar substitute for calorie restricted diets or for those suffering with diabetes. As a result, Nature's Treasure may have applications in treatment programs for all forms of diabetes. This product is a delightfully surprising alternative for those individuals who prefer not to use regular sugar or do not wish to use artificial sweeteners. These qualities allow for its use as a sugar substitute in all drinks, hot or cold, as well as your favorite cooking and confectionery recipes.
