PSA reliability

Hi All

I now have a third three-monthly reading and it looks as though things are moving.

Base-line 0.3, then 0.5, 1.0, 1.9 nicely fits an exponential, doubling time three months. (Nicely might not be quite the best adjective here!)

Slight complication is a sigmoidoscopy on Friday, and I wondered whether that would elevate the reading taken today (Tuesday). I know disturbance in the rectum (e.g. DRE) can alter PSA but I don't know how long the effect lasts. Can anyone provide info?

History:

Diagnosed Advanced PCa November 1999 - PSA 222 - Gleason 8 - T4M1.

Bone scan positive for multiple spinal mets.

Zoladex continuous since then.

Dave
